The billfish bite is still good out of Los Sueños, Jaco, Quepos, but the larger concentration of fish are being caught off of Nosara, Carillo and Samara. They're slowly moving North as the season rolls on. Some big Dorado are in the mix also, with plenty of yellowfin tuna following the schools of spinner dolphin. Action has slowed down in the Southern part of the country (Osa Peninsula) down towards Panama. Inshore action for Cubera, Roosterfish, Jacks, etc has been spotty, depending on weather conditions and water clarity. Some nice Wahoo and big roosterfish are being caught up around the Bat Islands, way up North near the Nicaraguan border. Hope this helps! MG ![]() |

Thanks for the report.. I am making my second trip to CR and this time I will be doing some fishing. Does anyone know a good captain(boat) out of los suenos/Jaco? |

Hoo's Your Daddy with Captain Dana Thomas. Nice boat and he will definitely put you on the fish if they are biting. He has been fishing the area for around 15 years. |

a)4 of us fished 24 June with Dana Thomas out of los suenos. had a great trip: one 120 lb sail, five 30lb tuna, and my best ever fish: a 250lb blue marlin. b)we were specifically targeting bill fish. c)we were one of only 4 boats fishing that day out of los suenos d)the ac was not working and the door came off the refrig but Captain D put us in the fish and is recommended. Yep, have known him since i moved to Costa Rica and he has a good reputation for putting you on the fish. A lot of guys just look at the boat and/or price when booking a fishing trip... The captain makes a huge difference. |

This is the best piece of advice anyone's going to get. When it comes to fishing in CR (or anywhere for that matter), it's not always about the price. I'd rather pay $800 for a stellar day of fishing than pay $500 for a long, hot boat ride! Well said Thirdworld! ![]() |

From what I hear the bite is best in the north now, ie. Flamingo. But as has been mentioned, choice of Captain is in your best interest for a successful trip. |

This is what I just got back from a friend in Los Suenos: "We've been catching a lot of tuna, some wahoo and grouper. Some boats saw and caught blue marlin a couple of days ago, unfortunately we were not fishing that day. We are fishing today, and we are going to find them." |
