Have a couple of friends coming down around the middle of February and would like to spend a couple of days fishing the pacific coast. Hoping some of you fishing experts could tell me where the best bite would be around that time.
Depends on what types / species of fish you're looking for. But January, February and March has some of hottest billfish action straight off the coast of Los Sueños (Herradura), Jaco & Quepos. The biggest concentration or billfish will be within a short distance of these locales. If the bite is a little South or North of the marina of your choice, you should still be able to find a crew to take you to the fishing grounds. Should be good numbers of sailfish, with some marlin occasionally popping up in your spread. You should also find pretty good numbers of Dorado (Mahi) and Yellowfin Tuna in the mix. Most reputable captains/crews monitor the bite on a daily basis, so they'll know where the boats have been catching the fish.
Have a great time, and let us know how you do.
