This was an article today in La Nacion. The government wants to tax 2% of the monthly revenue of casinos and gambling establishments. The government is doing this to pay for its public finance debt. The tax will represent $ 100 million annually for the government.

This is just like the old saying: "if it moves tax it"

I certainly hope you are referring to all governments not just CR. Do you think those casinos that operate in the various states where it is legal are not taxed on there revenue or profits or some other way? How about horse racing tracks? Think they get off tax free?

If they really want to regulate, or keep undesireables like the Russian mob out then the government should set up a gaming board like in Las Vegas. All this seems to be is a play for cash, and a very shortsighted one at that. Mui Tico.

It is my understanding that the proposed bill does contain a provision to set up a regulatory commission.

Like most government CR recognize that the easiest way to raise revenue is to tax the "sin" industries tobacco, alcohol and gaming
