I'm assuming CR has nothing like Islands of Adventure or Six Flags etc.. Any talks from those who live there to get something like this in place? I can see that being a good time... Cujo |

There is a small on called Parque Diversion in the La Uruca area (10 minutes from the gulch). It is similar to what we had thirty years ago. I have been twice and it is actually fun. The whole thing can be done in 1/2 a day. The Chicas and K*ds love it and it is not very expensive if I remember correctly. It has a wooden roller coaster that is nostalgic for me. BKTUNA I am nevergoing home |

Yeah it's a good time for K*ds, but it's not Six Flags. I don't think there is one ride that loops, a few that twists but no loops. http://www.parquediversiones.com/ |

I really enjoyed Parque Diversiones......was there several times with chicas con hijas y hijos. We all had a great time. It's a nice park at a reasonable price. ![]() |

A couple things about the park: -It's only open mostly Fri-Sun during the "winter" months (Mar-Nov). During the "summer" (Dec-Feb), it's open pretty much every day. There's a schedule (Horario) on the website. We found out the hard way last month. Nothing worse than a K*D disappointed because the amusement park is closed. I felt like pulling a Chevy Chase in Wally World. -A full-day ticket is ¢6,100 ($10.50). That includes all rides and attractions. After 2:30pm, it's only ¢1,200 ($2). Video game tokens are ¢350. -There are often 2x1 ticket specials on Fridays. |

"Why doesn't CR have anything like the major/ non-major US Theme parks?" The money to pay for them just isn't here. Let's look at prices: 6 Flags-$55//EPCOT-$80//Universal-$55. Even Gatorland is $15 for k*ds and $23 for adults. Even in an urban area like SJ, there's not the kind of disposable income to support them. Building/ operating costs can't be that much cheaper to support the debt service. Or maybe it's lack of imagination. Or maybe it's that the whole of the National Park System is a theme park. Or maybe (and this is a wild hairy-ass guess) maybe the K*ds and adults here don't need the synthetic fun these places represent, and low-key fun does them just right. Pick any four . |

Parque Diversiones reminds me of 1960s/1970s HERSHEYPARK in Hershey, Pa. It is very clean, very well maintained. A good value for a tico family. There is even a "large, under the pavillion area" for rides designed for the smaller Ch*ldren; also a food court type set-up in the pavillion. No "sooper-dooper-looper" rides, but certainly the rides available are enough to give anybody a thrill. |

If Ticos built a Space Shuttle would you want to fly in it? Now imagine that they built, or more likely someone (China) built for them, a high-tech theme park. Would you REALLY want to ride? I know that I would have second thoughts! ![]() |

There are doubtless a large group of intelligent, highly motivated folks here, it's just we meet so many of the other kind, they get forgotten about or lost in the shuffle. Never heard any bad stuff about the Intel plant and they have to have a bunch of Costa Ricans working there under quite controlled circumstances. Not to mention the doctors, dentists and other medicos. So yes if there were to be a theme park here and if I were inclined to participate, I wouldn't hesitate. But that's just me... |

Don't get to far ahead of yourselves... there just may be something coming to Guanacaste. Anyone ever heard of Schlitterbaun in Southern, Texas? I have pitched the idea to some folks who like it as part of a development near the Liberia Airport, now they just need to find the correct investors and financing. |
