I am looking for information just as the subject line states. 1. Do you know where a person could go? What areas of CR? 2. Don't need any Park info 3. Don't need any info about guns in CR. I am up to speed on that. 4. Don't need any anti-hunters attacking me for my thread. 5. Any info or links appreciated. Thanks in advance |

I am a life long hunter and that includes wild boar, bear and deer with a recurve bow. BUT, I do not believe that any hunting of any type is permitted in CR. Sorry...... PS Yes, I've been treed a couple of times by feral pigs. Nasty but tasty critters.. |

I'm not normally any big fan of hunting, but when it comes to non-native feral pigs I think the open season on them should run 13 months a year. They can do horrible things to the local environment, tearing up the soil and native species and otherwise disrupting the ecosystem. To be honest, I've never really seen any evidence of a large wild hog population in CR, but we have PLENTY of them here in Florida. Why don't you come down here instead and shoot as many as you like. BTW, I just tried doing a little research for you. I only found 2 semi-relevant references. The first referred to a TURTLE hunting season that ran July 1st through August 31st, but that was an old (1997) article and indicated that things were in motion even way back then to tighten the rules even further. The second short reference was in an article in the October 2007 Sports Afield which said: Quote: The Costa Rican Constitutional Court this summer shot down a petition that would have officially banned hunting in that country. While the case was pending, the Ministry of Natural Resources had already in effect banned all hunting by not publishing the game regulations. According to Ricardo Guardia Vazquez, a Costa Rican ... If I read that correctly, the lack of game regulations has effectively banned all LEGAL hunting. Of course, there is still plenty of illegal hunting (aka poaching) done in or around the national parks by local residents. However, as a foreigner I would seriously advice you stay away from that as I'm sure the book would be thrown at you even if it was just a few wild pigs.

All that i was doing was asking about it. I seriously doubt that i would ever go hunting in CR. Once again i wonder if killing what is supposed to be a domesticated animal is to be considered "hunting". Most likely a meeting and talk with the local cops and a bribe would be all that is needed. Overall i am more interested in the locations of populations of feral hogs rather than the actual hunting of them. Trapping sounds like fun but i doubt i would have time until retirement in CR. |
