I just recently noticed that there is a small chess club on calle 5 between Av 9 and 11. It is two blocks north fromt he Holiday Inn and behind the Dunn Inn. They are on the left side (west) in a little row of offices. There is an outdoor patio where guys set and play. I have not played yet but several guests said it was a friendly place and they have open games and tournaments. The name is something like Metropolitan Club de Alejedrez.

I've played there several times. They meet every evening and I think they have a tournament every Saturday. One of the guys is a real hustler and they take their tournaments really serious. Talking is truly frowned upon during the tournaments.
