Hi guys Trying to arrange a trip soon. Might want to go to Monteverde for a few days. Anyone been there? Can transportation arrangements be made at the Presidente? Anyone know a tica that might be a good companion? Might get to SJ on a Sat. Go to Mont. on Mon. come back on Thurs. stay till Sun. Any advice from the Vetrans would be welcome. Thanks

Monteverde is indeed a must in getting to see some CR natural beauty. There are a number of sites to check out for your itinerary. Try "monteverdeinfo.com" for a start. The Pres or the Del Rey tour desk can line things up for you, I personally think the DR desk is better. If you were traveling with 2 or more other guys I would reccomend hiring a driver but solo.....take the bus line from the hotel.

At least plan on staying 2 nights, 3 would be good. If you are planning on the cloud or rain forest hike, horseback riding.....pack a light pancho and jacket. It is rather cool and wet this time of year. As for a chica going along.....better spend some time with one and get to know her as best possible to see if she would be good to travel with.....or Phuck your brains out while in SJ so you can go solo, poontang is not all that available in the jungle or mountain resort. Would not be a problem for old Circus since I can whack off and drop my load anywhere along the trail......I have no shame.

Have fun on those gravel bumpy roads.......buena suerte

Monteverde is a must see from a purely naturalist viewpoint and http://www.monteverdeinfo.com is perhaps the best site out there on the area with tons of valuable info. Also as Circus said 2 nights is a suggested minimum and a poncho is a must this time of year (rubber boots you can pull on over your shoes wouldn't be a bad idea either). Another possibility that I haven't tried yet but have always wanted to is to take a horseback/boat/jeep trip from Monteverde to Arenal and return to SJ from there after spending a night. Just be sure to go with a reputable outfit (PM me if interested - I can dig up a name).

As for poontang, I'd bet that is your major reason for visiting CR, but I wouldn't recommend trying to find a MULTI-DAY companion in so short a time for your first trip. What seems pleasant for ST or even Todo le Noche can wear very thin over a couple of days and in Monteverde there is no easy way to send her packing. You should decide whether you want to devote yourself to non-stop pussy-pounding on your trip or whether you can afford to spend a few days without it.

IMHO, while I recommend Monteverde for a visit, if not now at some point in your CR travels, but if you want to make the trip with a female "guide" I think either the beach or Tabacon would make a much better destination.

Thanks guys. Circus, you're right about the main goal of this trip, but I can't resist the nature thing as well. As per your good advice, I think the wacking off on the trail thing is the best approach. I'll try to arrange at least two days( nights ) in SJ to get some of it out of my system ( hmm ) and then go up north. Yes I definitely will do the horseback trip to Arenal. Then back to SJ for some more relief. Might do this in Aug. if I can get good airfare out of St. Louis. Obviously never been, but have traveled a bit. This site is great , can't remember everthing I read so I'll look for some vets when I arrive. Thanks again guys.

Dog, make sure you contact Prolijo about a company to use, for the
trip from Arenal to Monteverde. I've heard some of the companies are really bad, horses in very poor condition. I've also heard that this trip
should not be tried in the raining season.

Maybe someone who has actually made the trip can add to this thread.

Hello everyone.

I as well will be making a very similar trip. The difference is that I will go to La Fortuna first, then MV for a day or so, and then back to SJ.

My question is this: is it possible to get transportation from MV back to SJ around 4-7 PM on a Friday? Should I arrange in advance? Is a taxi the best way (how much would that be approx.?), or is a bus the better way?

Check the interbus link above. Their last shuttle van leaves Sta Elena at 2:30 and gets in to SJ around 6PM - cost $30/pp.

The public bus would be cheaper still. The last one also leaves around 2:30 and gets in at 7PM. Here is the info off the http://www.monteverdinfo.com website:

I suggest you check that link next before asking any more questions, as it will tell all you need to know.

With a cab or hired driver you could leave anytime you want but it will cost you a lot more than the above 2 options fo rthe convenience.

Wow, a paved road to Monteverde! That is big news. I know they have been talking about this for quite some time, with a lot of the locals actually fighting AGAINST it. The current level of tourism is already putting a strain on the local environment. They even have a nickname for the area -Monteverde CROWD Forest. Now this should unleash a whole new level of tourism from those who had been dissuaded by the quality of road access. What's next? More people, more litter and pollution, more hotels, nightclubs ... the Blue Marlin opening an new branch? The local Quakers will not know what hit them. Of course, if this is like most road projects in CR it will be several years before the road is completed.
