BOTH. Most gringos use dollars, while most Ticos use colones.

the exchange rate for dollars SUCKS.

Go to the bank, get dollars changed to colones, and then use colones.

THIS APPLIES TO ANYTHING DONE IN CR...

if you play with dollars, you get paid in dollars, the exchange rate doesn't factor in unless you want to exchange; in colonial, the exchange rate is the best of all casinos.

in Amon Plaza, the exchange rate sucks for players, it's even worse for non-players (as of last November)

so I am guessing that they have different chips one for USD and one for colones. If that is the case awesome! just curious what is the max bet amount on a black jack table?

Yes, they have both chips.

I know, I was refering to wanting to change it back into dollars at some point...

I keep going back to the same thing... change your money in the bank, and don't use dollars at all in CR... you get raped.

100% correct. Just about anywhere you go, you lose something by using dollars, and it all adds up at the end.

I believe the Del Rey casino blackjack table I was at had a minimum bet of $5 or 1,000c . I think that reasoning for the difference is to make it easier on the dealers to remember, because those were the lowest denomination chips they used for both currency.

if you go over to the craps table or rumy tables in club colonial casino
your given the option of 5 dollars in us dollars or 1000 colones in costa rican colons as a minimum bet.

I think the 1000 colones level ($2) is to get more locals to play at the level.

as a tourist why not come in an play at the 1000 colones level on the craps table? that what i did and would do.

has anyone been to the non smoking casino at sleep inn?
it was getting started three years back when i was last in san jose.

I just use the ATM at the colonials. I did a cash advance with each of my ATM cards there and compared to my credit card, and exchange rate. I got the best rate out of my ATM card.

How do you get a cash advance from a debit card?

I was out in Turrialba and had $200 in $20 dollar bills come out
some atm's give you the option of colons or dollars in costa rica.

I'm staying at the sleep inn in early april. I've seen the casino in there. What's the deal with there and the colonial next door. Is it only the non-smoking section or is it seperate from the Colonial?
