I would like to get a nice pair of boots on my up coming trip
I read the old post most are fairly old. Those post say the shops around Torre Mercedes (Scotia Bank?) are the best bets. Does anyone know if that is still true? I will be in town for 3 weeks is that long enough for them to make them Thanks

have not been there in years, but i would be surprised if all those small boot shops are still not in existence.

3 weeks should be plenty of time if you visit them early in your vacation.

walk about the neighborhood, there used to be at least 4 or 5 small leather/boot shops.

Yes they are still there and I would say 4-5 small shops would be a conservative estimate.

I just had a nice pair hand made...27,000 colones

There are quite a few shops in the area. The one I used was:

Calzado Los Gemelos
200 mts. North, 25 West Torre
Mercedes, Paseo Colon
(diagonal esquina noroeste de Torre Mercedes Paseo Colon)
2256-4734
www.calzadolosgemelos.com

There is a large Scotia Building on Paseo Colon it is still referred to a Torre Mercedes even though Scotia took it over over 3 years ago. Its is about Calle22. As you are standing on Paseo Colon and facing the Scotia building the bank is on the northeast corner. Keeping the Scotia building on your right go two blocks (north). In that area you will find many leather shops that custom make boots.

I gotton 2 pairs. If you get fitted on the first day of your trip it may be possible to get them on your last day.
