As I understand it,the new casino hours passed by the Legislature for all of Costa Rica are 6pm to 6 am.Unless they are changed, this goes into effect December 27th. The Casino association estimates that this stupid law will put approximately 3000 people out of work. They are in favor of a more reasonable 2pm to 6am. So far the geniuses who run this Country have rejected those hours. That would be 2 full 8 hour shifts and have less of an impact on the economy.

There is an ongoing negotiation to avoid a pending lawsuit. It may be years before the final decision or enforcement.

Here it is,the 12th of December, and we still don't know for sure what the new casino hours will be on the 27th. (two weeks) I was told this week at the Fiesta in Alajuela that the new hours would be 2pm to 6 am. At the Colonial I was told that the original legislated hours of 6pm to 6am would be enacted. Does anyone know for sure?

Latest word is that this bill will not be enacted tomorrow (27th of Dec). It has been assidned to a different committee and will be taken up after the first of the year. If so,I am told that it can't be put in force for at least another 4 months. maybe the geniuses will let it die in committee and save thousands of people from losing their jobs. At least it won't be their Christmas present to those hard working employees of the many casinos.
