I've long held that banks that process transactions for illegal/gray area commerce, should be as accountable as the people actually involved in the business itself. I speak from experience.

At least Rep. Barney Frank has enough sense to know that it shouldn't be banned, just regulated (and taxed  ).
The US is a huge market for these companies, and since they are much smarter than anybody in the US government, they will always figure out a way to get around these ridiculous laws. You CAN still play poker online if you want to from the US. It just takes longer to get your money since they can't send it electronically. People will just have to send deposits and receive cashouts by check in order to play. Btw, why the Phuck are horse racing and lotteries not considered gambling, according to the government? Some degenerates spend the whole day at OTB or the track and bet their bankroll away on horses. Then there are the scratch-off lottery junkies, they're like crackheads looking for their next fix. |

I agree 100% with Brother Orange's post--banning something means you've given up controlling it within societal parameters. We tried it with alcohol and that gave us Organized Crime; we tried it with powdered substances and you can see how well that's going--SA and the Golden Triangle gangs have taken gazillions out of the country, are in the process of destroying Mexico, and created all manner of Latin gangs in the U.S. And the Lottery--I know guys who spend between $100-300 a week on scratch-offs and the Daily Number, with the state using sophisticated marketing machinery to keep it going. Pious assertions to the contrary, N. J. at least is as addicted to gambling money (don't forget A.C.) as are the gamblers. |

Having been a cop for 25 years in the states and seen drugs, gambling and vice up close I feel disillusioned by conditions in America. Drugs are illegal not because of the effects they have on society but because they compete with the legal drugs, alcohol and tobacco. They also provide a huge underground market and economy that is extremely lucritive for those willing to take the risk. Remember when alcohol was banned the fortunes that were made that later became repectable (Joe Kennedy). Gambling is illegal except when the states see ways of making money. How much of this is passed along to the politicians who control the laws that regulate it. Prostitution is illegal but daily you hear of politicians, judges, sports figures, religious figures, police officials being involved in this activity. Half the population, the female half, have mixed feelings about prostitution as competition to their monopoly on pu*sy. They realize that they are selling it by holding out for marriage, only the price is higher. The truth is that you can't legislate morality. If you want to see much of it go away, make it legal and take the profit out of it. Plenty of things are wrong in Costa Rica but compared to the United States these folks are amateurs. Having grown up in the 50s in the States I have seen the erosion of freedom that has occured. Much of this was necessitated by abuses of business and government. There is no perfect solution to the problems. Running away from it doesn't make it go away, I did by moving to Costa Rica, only a little easier to tolerate. |

Does anyone still play poker online!?!!? I ask that only half sarcastically. After watching that 60 Minutes episode a few weeks ago, I was further soured to online poker and games of that nature. |

Cool post, pops. Anyone want to guess who the biggest smuggler of illegal drugs is into the US? Back to the original post...if anyone has followed my posts, you will notice that I have little love for the banks. It all stemmed from some issues I had with a website I used to run. The items sold were a little controversial but the banks were more than happy to process the transactions, knowing FULL well what was being offered. When the sh*t hit the fan the banks were like..hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. dapanz1 |

I concur. The only reason the U.S. has outlawed it is they have not figured out a way to tax it. Florida just started participating in the Powerball lottery. About 20 states are involved in Powerball. Isn't that gambling? What hypocrisy! Indeed, Phuck the U.S.! |
