Just a heads-up for those of you in CR this Sunday. Much of CR will be
'glued' to their televisions at 1:00 this Sunday. CR will play Cuba
in a World Cup soccer qualifying round. It is a 'home and home' series.
The two teams tied last weekend 2-2 in Havana. The game will be played
in Alajuela. An interesting preface to the game...CR wanted the game
played in San Jose, but apparently the stadium is artificial turf, and FIFA,
the governing body of world soccer, decreed that all games must be
played on natural grass. I'm not sure which San Jose stadium (the National
Stadium in Sabana Park or the big stadium in Tibas) CR wanted the game
played at. GO TICOS!

Here I go...replying to my own post again.

Just an update...CR and Cuba played to a 1-1 tie, but CR advances to the
next round on the basis of scoring more 'away' goals. I think the next round
occurs in September or October. After the game, the Ticos fired their coach,
an American who coached the U.S. National team a few years ago.
Apparently the Ticos thought that they should have easily beat Cuba, and
both games ended in a tie. As you probably know, soccer (futbol) in CR
is like football or baseball in the US. The Ticos take it VERY seriously.

Question...what two things do all towns have in CR?
Answer...a soccer/futbol field and a church.

Copa America is a different event than the World Cup qualifying series. Copa America is for the championship of Central and South America. As
Brazil are the defending World Cup champions, CR faces a daunting task on July 11 in their Copa America game.

Way I heard it was what does it take to make a town in CR?

1. Church

2. Futbol field

3. Bar

The Ticos got 'screwed' last night! One of their defensemen was called
with a penalty with 5 minutes left. It was a borderline call. Paraguay
converted the penalty shot for the win. CR had some good scoring chances
throughout the game, but the Paraguay goalie made some awesome saves.
I wish them well
on Sunday, but Brazil are the defending World Cup champions, so it
doesn't look good.

well beaten to-day 4-1,first half they were the better side and missed a few chance's and in the 45th minute a half chance for brazil and the net was nearly tore in the half with a fierce shot.....1-0 to brazil, second half is only minute's old and it's 2-0 to brazil, chasing the game after that and it could have been a lot worse...brazil without most of it's super star's cruised to victory...............some fire-power is needed up-front for world cup qualifier's,hopefully paolo wanchorpe will be back from injury.........

I was wondering if they were going to count the goal, as the sign on the
sideline at the end of regulation (45 minutes) said an extra three
minutes of 'injury' time. When they scored, the time was 48:04, four seconds 'over'.
I guess the officials don't keep exact time, especially when one team
has a chance to score. Anyway, the winning goal caused me to win my
bet ($57)! If the game had ended in a tie, I would have lost $16.
The Ticos next play Colombia on Saturday. I'll bet they'll be a little
animosity in the BM with the Ticas and Colombianas routing for their
home countries!
