Often, As I get to the end of a trip, I like to spend my last night with My Novia. To often I end up being in the Gulch on my last night, when I would prefer to be elsewhere. Does Anyone have any information on the Tara Resort. Twarag had indicated he had dinner up there and it was real nice. Time back to the Gulch on a Monday AM? as well. It seems like a nice change of pace, out of the hustle of SJO, with a colonial feel, etc? Do they have a Casino on premises? First hand knowlege would be appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE. |

From the Tara to the Gulch is about half an hour, depending of course on the traffic. You would be much better off going straight from the Tara to the airport. |

After my last post, and against my better judgement, I did what I said I was never going to do and went back to the old board. I still refuse to post anything there, but I recognize that in the past it has been a source of some very useful information and so figured I'd use these search feature to look-up any past posts on the subject of Tara Resorts. The only references I found were ones made by me. Bada mentioned it, but did not indicate he had actually been there either. So much for the value of old subjects at that site. Interestingly, in the short time I was there, I noticed a thread started by a guy you may recall who goes by the handle Travis Bickle. Seems he claims to have been at the recent ZB party where he met yours truly. This is interesting since a) as you all know I wasn't even in CR at the time b) he knew about the party, which obviously wasn't promoted on the other board, and knew my new handle (he obviously spends a lot more time on this board than I do over there) c) he still feels the need to flame me even though I haven't been at that site or referred to him in any way in months and d) the thread which descended from an already inauspicious start to even more flaming was by far the longest thread at that site in recent months. Less surprising was that he criticized the party much more so than even Circus. I guess that is his way of making sure that Rico, who has his own commercial disagreements with ZB, continues to allow him to flame everyone else. I'd be curious to see what sort of response this post will have over there, but not enough to go back to find out. Enough of that ridiculous subject. Back on Tara. My brother and I visited Tara on our last trip. Not to stay but to have lunch and see the view. It was great but seemed like a slow place because they didn't seem to have many people staying there at the time. The food was good from my bad memory nothing stood out. One thing was a pain. Throughout lunch, the waiter was constantly brushing off the table and cleaning around us eating. It made us feel like we were slobs. I talked to a gentlemen in San Diego who has a friend that owns part or all of the the place and he told me that the owners were going to go for a casino or girls. They must have picked girls as while we wre eating lunch, we were asked if we wanted to check out the three girls that they had upstairs. We had other plans, so we passed. This gentlemen in San Diego that I talked too indicated that he had recently stayed there for three weeks and it was great but, then again, this guy was defintely not the mongering type. Personal opinion is that it is not worth staying the night unless you want to entertain yourselves throughout the time that you are there. Have a Great Day, Dave |

Thanks for the feedback guys, as If I go on A Sunday Afternoon it will be with my Novia for the night to get out of the gulch have a nice dinner up in the hills, use the Spa which seems nice from the website and overall just get a different perspecitve then dinner in the gulch and breakfast on the Rail with my special lady.. I can only imagine how tired she becomes of that routine... So I thought I would do something different and their off season prices look good... Probably can negotiate if nobody is there, by just showing up in person.. but we shall see.. Will give some feedback next trip.... |

Gman...I know the owner and can help you out. The casino is no longer open there. It IS a quiet romantic spot to take a Novia with a fantastic view. I dont think there are any quest fees either if someone wanted to take a pro there. They will take whatever money they can get up there I believe. The restaurant is old world, with linens and suited male waiters. The chefs best dish there in my opinion is the Duck de le orange...hard to find down here. |

I wondered about the Tara, without knowing what it was, the last time I was in Costa Rica about a month ago. I stayed at the Pico Blanco hotel, also located up in the hills of Escazu. You can see the Tara from the Pico Blanco, and it looks like a beautiful place. I have only stayed at the Pico Blanco, but it is an interesting alternative. It's got an unreal view, but you pretty much have to make your own fun. If you have your lady with you that shouldn't be a problem. The Pico Blanco charges about $45 a night for you and your lady. |
