There is a recently new and good duty free store at Paso Canoa, on the Pana side.

The booze I saw there were cheaper than other duty free in that area, and lots of good selection as well.

Example: Hennessy XO Cognac , the 70cl bottle ... USD 79. At the SJO airport they go for about USD 110 , which I bought twice and will not be doing that any more.

Store also has electronics and perfume, evian bottled water. As usual , need to show passport when making purchase, since it is for non Panamanian only.

It's not somewhere you'll have to stray far. When you hit Canoa , locate the department store Wong Cheng, which everyone there would know. Walk through it and exit the other side towards Panama and turn right, walk straight until you reach that Hypermas supermarket. Right across the street to your left , you'll see a small Plaza, Plaza Don Camilo and the duty free is there. There's also a bank and a dollar store there as well. The area ( Panamanian side ) in day time is pretty safe.Try to get your shopping done before 5pm.

Enjoy.

Sweet ride's over for Hennessy. Their price for Hennessy XO shot back up to 119, about 5-6 bucks cheaper than SJO airport duty free still, but not anything like before.

I picked up a couple 750 ml Zacapa centenario XO (rum ) though at 59 a piece. At SJO dutyfree is about 90 bucks a pop, so Zacapa lovers take note.

I was clearing the carry on found a couple more bills so I am adding these:

Johnny Red, 1 L 12 bucks.

Famous Grouse 1 L, comes with a whisky glass with FG logo, 7 bucks. Great bang for the buck if you ask me.

Chivas 12 yr 750 ml 16 bucks and 50 cents. About 30 bucks at SJO dutyfree.

These are the pretty much the prices at various Panamanian dutyfree stores at Canoa.

A few here and there, local places; we're just talking about that in the VIP section a couple weeks ago.
