Can anyone give me the "411" on the Palmares Festival? Inside Costa Rica reports that it begins January 17 and runs for 12 days. Any reports from past years? Thanks in advance. Osogrande You can't buy happiness, but you can rent it. |

I plan on spending a day there with my regular taxi driver and his family. If you are looking for something to do, this fiesta is always a great take. It is a great place to take your favorite chica. I am going with a few friends tomorrow for the first time. I believe we are going to watch a parade and tailgate. My friends (one Tico and one long tern resident gringo) say the women are everywhere. I will report back later. BKTUNA I am never going home |

I lived in CR from the Dec of 2004 to Oct 2005 and I went to Palmares in January. They run a number of buses from San Jose there during the festival. The best time to go is on the weekends but it is also super crowded. The Ticos and Ticas will not normally arrive in force until after about 11 or 12 pm then they will keep coming until about 7 pm. At this point some of those who arrived early will start to head back and around 10 pm most of the activities and show were over. If you ride the buses back into San Jose the lines are really long if you wait till about 9 pm to leave. During the day there are rides, bull fights, usually 2 stages or more with music and lots of food. The rest of the year Palmares is a small town with not much going on but during these 2 weeks it is packed with people. The traffic is so bad that it can take hours to get there. However, there are lots of hot girls, locals from all over. I also saw a number of girls from DR, KL and some of the other establishments in town. So to go or not to go. Well if you want to see lots of good looking women and don't mind tons of people it is worth checking out. |
