I just bought out a friends old business for dirt cheap. Problem is I need a website. 1 for now and another 1-2 in late 2008 or 09. Its very simple. I am looking both for a designer or someone who does that can give me ball parks so I am not bent over by people here in the states. To give you an idea, its a home page, application page, FAQ and "about" page. No pictures (except company logo) ability to browse and up louad 4-6 pictures on the appl. page and thats about it. I can send copies of site I want to model this after if anyone can help. Just need ideas. best way to reach me is myjeep8u@gmail.com I can give you more details there. Thanks in advance and hope I posted in the best section!?!?!

I know this sounds crazy, but put an ad on Craigslist in countries like India and Vietnam. There are good designers on there who will work for as little as $5 per hour sometimes. You communicate through yahoo or msn messenger and pay through paypal. I have a friend who has worked like this quite a few times and I respect his opinion. Otherwise, I wouldn;t have thought of this.

Most freelance designers work craigslist. If you want to pay around $500 - $1000 for a standard 6 - 8 page professional designed site but not a lot of bells and whistles, check any of the big domain registry companies. They all offer it. Godaddy.com is fairly in expensive but you may find cheaper by some of the smaller companies. Also, hosting companies offer the service as well for the same fee.

Cheers.

If all you want is 4-5 pages, you could go with a freelance webdesigner in the US that will probably charge a few hundred bucks or you could go with someone in India who will do it really cheap but may or may not understand what you really want to have done OR you could do it yourself for next to nothing. It's not that hard.

For what you're trying to do, the results will probably be nearly as good or as good as what most "pro's" would give you. My site is not the most polished because I did it entirely from scratch (including creating the graphics myself), but IMHO its not bad. I also had ambitious initial intentions, most of which I never got around to complete, and so my site is necessarily more complex than yours would be. If you want something more slick and professional looking than what I did, you could easily use one of the many free or nearly free website templates that are out there. They have with very professional looking graphics or even flash media. Just do a quick Google search for "free website templates" and you'll get an idea. Once you have a better idea what you want, IF you still need a little more guidance drop me a PM or e-mail and I'll try to steer you more in the right direction.

The really hard part is NOT coming up with a website. That part is relatively easy. The more important part is making it so your customers can FIND it. That probably means making it so it will come out high on search engine results. When was the last time you ever scrolled beyond the 2nd or 3rd page of the 10 million hits a typical search often gets? You used to be able bump up your sites ranking by just including the appropriate keywords embedded in your webpage (sometimes multiple times). Increasingly it now means paying fees to those search engines. Another trick of the trade is the use of banner advertising (the small clickable ads that appear on other sites that steer visitors to yours). Getting those ads placed (and placed well) usually involves some sort of per click payment, "banner exchange" (whereby you also place their banner ads on your site) or rarely if you're lucky the "kindness of strangers" (or friends) if you can somehow get them to place your banner on their site for free.

If you decide to go with a pro to design and build your site, at least be sure to ask them if they include any website PROMOTION in their fee and EXACTLY what that includes, as that is where their services MIGHT really pay off. If they don't, consider actually going to a seperate provider who specializes in website promotion and really knows what they're doing. There are also free resources on the web to help in the area of website promotion if you really want to do this on the cheap. But, personally, if you're going to invest money into this, I'd recommend you save most of it for the website PROMOTION part of the equation as that is where you'll get the most payoff.

Yeah, I guess you could call what I do "building websites"...

I don't know any designers anymore, but you may have luck on a site like www.scriptlance.com .
