Post subject:  World Poker Showdown Coming To Costa Rica

Hi All,

This is my first post and I must say this is a great site, I'm learning alot, thank you all.

I've been to the DR on quite a few mongering trips and have limited resources such as this site for CR. Excelllent work to all.

Well, here's the deal with the World Poker Showdown.

A bunch of poker players I know are all headed down to CR for this event and I have decided to join them. I need a vacation, and I've never been to CR before, so why not, right??

The tournaments start Saturday Oct. 20th 2007 and run till Sunday the 28th. In Playa Jaco.

I plan on getting my "monger" on while I'm down there as well!! 8)

If you all are interested in attending there are all different amounts of buy-ins to fit almost any budget. The main event is about $2500 but there will be a satellite event for that and that's about $275. The Brenes bros. will be in attendance as they have in previous World Poker Showdown tournaments from what I hear.

Anyways, all the information is at their website.

Please post if you all think you might attend, I'm interested in seeing what response I might get here, being a newb and all.

Thanx, and hope to see you at the tables.

Cool, but just to incase you missed it....it takes place in Playa Jaco.

I beleive all the WPS tournies are Texas NL, but ther's a chance I may be wrong, the website can clarify.

Anyways, I just hope the "hunt" goes well...I arrive on the 20th (saturday) so I'll post what I run into.

Here's confirmation in today's Inside Costa Rica newspaper:

World Poker Showdown in Costa Rica
Bookmaker.com, one the leading online sportsbooks on the web, today announced a sponsorship deal with the World Poker Showdown (WPS) in Costa Rica. The WPS Tour hosts events at many exotic locations around the world including Costa Rica, St. Maarten, and the Bahamas along with offering a Poker Tour Cruise. Recognized throughout the poker industry, the WPS caters to the professional player looking for more excitement and the opportunity to play under the sun.

“We are very excited to be sponsoring the World Poker Showdown,” stated Ed D’Lyne, Casino Manager at BookMaker.com. “Considering this tour event and its size, and the fact it is going to be broadcasted, it’s an excellent sponsorship opportunity for BookMaker.com to maximize the exposure from this event and continued to strengthen our brand.”

The WPS Tour lands in Costa Rica on October 20th for eight days of competition. The event is hosted at The Jazz Casino in Playa Jacó, and event coordinators expect between 3,500 and 4,000 players. For details visit www.worldpokershowdown.com . Added D’Lyne, “The event also provides BookMaker.com the opportunity to personally reach out to the 2,000 plus players participating in the event by inviting each and every one of these players to visit our casino.”

“In addition, our Casino at BookMaker.com offers many exciting games. We’ve just launched our new real-time blackjack tournament which we’ll be showcasing at the WPS event. This network has become a huge draw for many poker players who enjoy the speed and strategy involved. We plan on reserving a couple tables at the event to run Sit n Go and Mano a Mano blackjack tournaments to give these players a taste of our new game. We’re really looking forward to this event!”

Mucho Gusto;
Can't let this go but didn't Ed D'lyne (played by James Cahn) just lose his job as the President of Operations at the Montesito in Vegas?

In the first season of the WPT television show (2003) a tourny was held in San Jose.

I can't remember all of the participants at the final table but Dewey Tomko and his former partner in the Horseshoe casino (Jamie) were two of them. One or two of the Benes brothers might have been there.
Also Jose Rosenkrantz might have been a part of that show.

The most notorious was Luis Milenes. According to the Interpol website he is still "at large".

If you liked Shana Hiatt, the former WPT "sideline" reporter I suggest doing a Google search. There are some very nice pics of her online.

On behalf of Mucho Gusto (but without his authority or endorsement):

LV Steve- you are correct, sir. A mere 13 days ago Ed Deline (played by James Caan) disappeared in a Montesito hallway with a police detective coming to bother him. In fact, somebody had a gun to his back, which Ed turned around before pulling a Criss Angel and ...gone.

Do you think he has resurfaced at bookmaker.com

LVsteve,
I heard something about this (word on the street), but I don't know for sure. I'll be in Vegas in a couple weeks, and I'll talk to a few "friends" about it.
