Mucho Gusto gave me good info but Flamenco is too far. About 6 of the Pgh crew coming down in March want to go out fishing. We were thinking in the Jaco/Quepos area. I would appreciate any help, especially personnel experiences you can give on prices, service etc. Thank you. |

For fishing, if it's a decision between Jaco & Quepos, Quepos hands down. For mongering, Jaco. Couple of good websites if you look, or if you get there hang out at Great Escape Restaurant & Bar, most of the fisherman and captains wind up there in the early evening to swap stories. Or you can just go to the pier early am or around 4 or 5 pm and start negotiating for that day or next. You will need a fishing license to get past the guard at pier--can buy from him or elsewhere. There's going to be an American named John there--he has a shop in Quepos name of which I forget, I think he has a website, He has half and full day prices for what he says are his boats, maybe, but he's also really brokering for a bunch of other guys boats. Still, he's a big player. Or Lynch Travel in Quepos--no extra fee--they know everybody. Deal with the boss, older Italiano, forget his name, speaks English of course. Prices aren't going to vary that much. For bill/big fish ( if you are very lucky Marlin), you need to do the full day--their "blue water" is along way out there, and of course a long way back. Make sure they will be baited up before you board; sometimes they are screwed up and you spend the first hours in shore fishing for bait. |

Twarag: Actually, for Fishing and mongering you are far better off going out of Jaco-Los Suenos than Quepos. If you charter a boat out of Quepos to go offshore for the day and watch the compass you will notice the captain heading North Northwest. Guess what? They are heading North and fishing out in front where the boats from Los Suenos are fishing. Leaving from Los Suenos gives you less travel time, more fishing time, nicer boats, and better fishing. Quepos and Manuel Antonio are great places to visit for a day or two and take in the scenery and wildlife, but for a place to call home base, you are best off in the Jaco-Los Suenos area. More restaurants, more activities, better nightlife, better fishing and an hour closer from the airport than Quepos. If you also take into effect that there is really nothing to do after 8:00pm in Quepos , Jaco-Los Suenos is a much better overall choice. You should also know that the fishing this time of year the fishing is touch and go. The Los Suenos boats that have been getting out are catching some nice sails, Dorados, and yellowfin tunas. |

If quality of your experience means anything, you should reconsider Flamingo. All in all, Playa Flamingo is a far superior destination than either Jaco or Quepos. I realize that distance is a factor, but the little extra you will pay for your flight to Flamingo is worthwhile in my opinion. It would be different if Los Suenos was still open to mongering, but since it is not, you should not rule out Flamingo for consideration. |

if you try Quepos give this guy a call Kinembe2.com his name is Chris and he is a fish catching machine. has a new boat and is american and has been there for some time. he can help with lodging ect. fishing is a little slow till Jan. but he can find the fish anytime. |
