X,
I'm enrolled in CRLA (Costa Rica Language Academy) right now and it has done wonders. Finished day eight today and have learned quite a bit of Spanish already. Enough to talk bull**** to the chicas at least. I'd definitly recommend it.
The school is basically right across the street from Hotel M so if you stay there it's a 30 second walk.
Previous posters are correct on the students...many hot Euro and American girls hanging out for eye candy

Students are pretty freindly and many gather at the clubs around the SanPedro mall after hours so when you walk in you will be liable to see a familar face.
The school and teachers really seem to care and make sure you are progressing at a pace you are comfortable with. Had an older guy in my class the first week but he couldn't keep up so they pulled him out and gave him private sessions for the same cost as the class. There are also dance and cooking classes avaliabe at no charge.
Another nice perk is the airport pickup and dropoff. Saves you $50 right there! I was three hours later than my 'arrival time' and driver was waiting right outside the airport door.
I will be attending through the first days of August so can show you around and hang out if you'd like...
The website address is
www.spanishandmore.com Do yourself a favor and check it out! I'm doing three hours a day (didn't think my brain could take anymore than that). The class goes from 9am to noon. The lunch at the school is $2-$3 for some really good food along with free drinks and snacks. Afternoon classes go from 1pm to 4pm depending on the number of hours you take.
Oh, just don't do the homestay. I took a guy I met at school to DR the other night and a chica ask where he was staying. When he said with a CR family she immediatly walked away. Of course, might be a good way to blow off an 'uninteresting' girl
P.S. I am in no way affiliated with CRLA and won't get a discount as I pre-paid despite the above sounding like an advertisement.
