Preakness Selections: After another Kentucky Derby winner, exacta & Trifecta, OK OK So I only had the winner “Barbaro†last year but who remembers that, we head into week two of the triple crown with an obvious logical choice to win leg 2. If we seem to recall last year we thought Barbaro was a can’t miss or at worse 2nd best. Tragic struck us but we did have the winner Bernardini as our 2nd choice which was not a bad choice at all. Of course actually seeing Bernardini train last year we had a big advantage. This year we have no such inside information other than what the world has seen, read and observed. So Here we go! Some will proclaim that this is not a betting race. All races are betting races if you have the winner. As is the case with the stock market, some winners pay less. The Preakness is traditionally a chalk-fest, with favorites winning 51 percent of the time not to mention 18 of the last 20 winners lets exclude last year and its 19 of the last 20 winners of the Preakness ran in the derby. Wow that is a pretty big trend that CAN NOT BE IGNORED. Sorry would love to give you some gift from the gods but 19 out of 20 makes this a 4 horse race. The Sexy choice seems already to be Curlin, though he might be slightly confused while wondering: Where are all those slow horses from Arkansas? He did run a great race in the derby considering his inexperience, his horrible post, start and everything else that went wrong to run a strong 3rd. With that said I still think at best he is 3rd best here, but he is to good a horse to ignore to get a possible place pocket here. Circular Quay another derby runny and a late addition to the field the let me spot the field about 50 lengths and try to make it up, well sorry guys I never liked this horse and don’t see him in the money here. Tons of early speed and better closers take him off my ticket. Hard Spun the hard knocking Larry Jones colt who ran a monster race who almost went gate to wire is still a tough no nonsense front runner that might not have to take the early speed this time with such front runners as flying first class who will go out and run till he can run no more. Flying first class has faltered twice on two turns but even after the monster race he ran in the Derby trial , not to mention Curlin has crushed this horse twice, my guess here he will be out of petro here as well. Leaving Hard spun who likes to run close to the lead a good shot at getting this one done. Worry here is this horse can bounce, but there is NO indication he is going to. He has better consistent beyers than Street Sense, and I still think that bullet he ran Monday before the derby hurt his chance of winning. Not to mention that if anyone gave Street Sense any trouble making his rail move, we would have a different Derby winner. Leading us back to the Favorite Street Sense. Man I hate betting favorites, for one, if you win everyone says, big deal you had the favorite, if you lose they say you had no value it was a stupid bet. Guess what folks would you rather cash the ticket or use it to as toilet paper? I personally like to cash the ticket, but you never know. So where is the value here, it certainly is not betting this horse to win unless you are prepared to spend a lot of money to make very little. Also closers in this race do not fair well, as the turns are shorter, the stretch is shorter, and being to far back can get you in trouble in this short field, with all this speed. The rest have no shot. Sorry you heard it hear first! Interesting Horse is CPWEST. Horse has been beaten by King of the Roxy, and sense & quay in the BC Juvi last year but I can’t ignore his work this past week. A bullet similar to Hard Spun before the derby shows this also ran is ready for a big race… So Betting Options.. Putting all my eggs in one basket, Betting Streets Sense on top only is one of the dumbest wagers to make but Hell one only lives once. But even so I will do a little hedge. $20.00 Exacta Straight Street Sense With (Curlin & Hard Spun) Cost $40.00 $10.00 Exacta Straight (Curlin & Hard Spun) With Street Sense Cost $20.00 $10.00 Trifecta Straight Street Sense (With Curlin & Hard Spun) Cost $20.00 $5.00 Trifecta (Curlin / Hard Spun) with Street Sense With (Curlin / Hard Spun) Cost $20.00 Sexy Bet $3 Superfecta (Street Sense) with (Curlin / Hard Spun) With Curlin / Hard Sun) CP West Cost $12.00 Total out of pocket is $112.00 maybe we will get lucky and hit it and make a few bucks. Honestly unless you need to bet this race PASS, if you have cien to blow, then take a shot! Good luck! |

We hit the Exacta & The Trifecta again and of course the length of my Johnson costs me the SUPERFECTA 3 X 350.00 but I'll take a profit non the less on a bad betting race... What can I say we had the long shot CP west running a good 4th and threw everyone else out guess what if you split up the $3 superfecta for and made 2 with Sense on top and 1 with sense second you did hit it and made about $600.00 Regardless, Another winning pony day which I have no complaints about... See you in 3 weeks! |
