I did a search and was surprised that there was not a lot of info on rafting I did find something on human waste going right in to the rivers  (not what I was looking for)
Has anyone done the Rios Tropicales 2 day Pacuare River tour? Or Has any one stayed Rios Tropicales lodge? Any information would be appreciated |

I guess there are not many river rafters out there. To bad hoped to take a trip in July when I come down and would have liked some feed back. Guess will just have to go canoeing and pretend we are that little man in the canoe.

I did the one day trip on the Pacuare River with Rios Tropicales, but did not do the over night stay at the hotel. If I remember corectly, you pass the hotel site going down the river, and it looked nice, but that is all I can say about it. The one day trip was great. I think the Pacuare River is rated as the more difficult trip (tougher rapids) but it didn't seem to difficult, and I had never been rafting before. I am going back to San Jose May 19th-27th and will probably do it again. |

Crtbound, On my first trip Oct. '06, I took in a class III-IV rafting trip down the Pacuare. Well worth the $80, would have to research what operator it was. YMMV but, this was a nice break from SJ, and if the weather is cooperating(rain) this can be a fantastic raft. My only regret was not purchasing a waterproof disposable camera for the trip. Generally all operators will pick you up at your hotel, some offer brkfst or lunch and get you back to SJ late in the afternoon. Some will also offer a CD/DVD for a mere $40.00  which will give you some shots of you shooting thru the rapids, a little overpriced in my book.

Late reply here, just saw it: I've rafted the class 3-4 rapids at the Pecuare 3 times,(once elsewhere) did the smaller stuff once. I had a bad experience with "Exploradores Outdoor" people. It rained like hell the day before a trip and the Pecuare was running at 5-6 class. They opted to raft another river. It was a shorter run but they did not communicate this to us. Instaed, they gave us a 1:15 minute breakfast. Normally you eat lunch on the river, then finish the river. We were in the water at 10 and out at 12:30. They gave us a 2 hour lunch back at camp??? Not a full day at all. To top things off they send me the wrong CD with pics. It takes a month to get the CD to the states. I suggest plenty of sunscreen, it gets intense when the sun is out and try and team up guys that look like they can paddle hard. Non paddler rafts on class 3-4 rapids can get very dangerous. |

I had a great day rafting the Pacuare with costa sol rafting http://www.costasolrafting.com/ We booked for the reventazon river initially and they called early in the morning to say there wasn't enough water and would we like to do the Pacuare for the same price - I think 60 bucks. Hotel pick up, breakfast and lunch, 4 hour tour on the river. Stops for swimming, waterfall, etc on the way. I would recommend our guide Luigi he was great. We bought the CD - 30 bucks - I split it with the wing and it was well worth it. We passed the camp where they do overnight - it looked like fun and would do it maybe with a chica. Don't know if any of the Talamanca indians are available for a TLN. Didn't ask. The only think I didn't like is that if anyone gets hurt or sick out there, you are basically SOL. I slipped on a rock and hit my ass ard on a waterfall stop - no big deal, but it could of been worse - made me think. By all means go though - it was a great day. PHX |

That camp does look pretty cool to stay in. I can imagine a major bug problem at night. I heard the native indians do turn tricks for ya. Don't know about a TLN. There's also alot of herbs (good kind) growing in the vacintiy. |

Thanks guys. Amount of rain will be a factor for me before I think of going. Been rafting before else where on a river that was normaly a class 3-4 but due to no rain was not much fun. Did't even consider rafting in Feb when I was down most rivers I saw where more less dry. Crt Bound |

I have used Coast to Coast and Rios Tropicales. Both provided great one day trips. On one trip I stayed a night at the Coast to Coast camp on the Pacuare & it was a great experience. The jungle is amazingly loud at night!! I highly recommend the Pacuare trip. One year I bought the photo CD & they delivered it to the hotel in SJ within 2 days. |

Thanks every one for your input I almost chicken out because I do not have any rafting experience. However, after reading all the posts a few of you did not either so I think I will book it useing Rios Tropicales on the Pacuare River. I like to get out of SJ for at least 1 night on and 8-day trip, to rejuvenate. Once I brought a tica with to Tourtuguero but it was somewhat weird being on a tour bus with families, tree huggers and bible pushers. So lately, I just go solo and get a little rest and relaxation in.

Im rafting in july and im going to book it with Rios Tropicales tommorow. wasn't planning to staying there until you caught my eye with this post. Is there a good chance to pick up a local at this place or maybe close bye if i stay there. Checking out the local vegitation and herbs is right up my alley. Is there another place nearby to stay at or a bar that might give me better luck with with the said above? does anybody know how far this lodge is from Puerto Viejo or how and how much it might cost me to get there from the lodge. |

Blazenup I did go and stay at the lodge I thought it was Great. However, I will admit that staying overnight is not for everyone. The lodge is I the middle of the rain forest the nearest town is a 15-mile walk over the mountains there is a family that is there as caretakers they have ch*ldr*n that make that walk twice a day! When you get off the river, you have to help portage the rafts and carry the food and equipment up the hill after that they take to your room and you get an hour to take a shower and clean up. Then you go down for Happy hour and dinner after that it is about 8:30 and there is nothing to do except hanging out with the people on the tour. They do sell beer and I hung out for about an hour It is a long day, I had I late one the night before you use mussels that you do not normally use, and I was reedy for a good night sleep. There are absolutely no chance for any mongering but there are a lot of collage g*rls doing this tour in the summer if you think you have enuff game. The advantages to staying over night are you do not have to do it all in one day You also get to enjoy the absolutely beautifully loge In the morning, they take you on a Zip line they have at the lodge. In addition, you get back to San Jose with enuff energy to go out and party I would not do it any other way, however I would not do it at all if I hade less the 7 day in Costa Rica. |

thanks for the advice, i decided to just do the 1 day Pacuare with a free Drop off in Puerto Viejo:) afterward. gonna chill out there for 4 days |
