I don't know the situation in Playa de Coco per se, but probably the closest available action would be Playa Flamingo (not exactly sure how far that is from Coco). There's a bar called Amberes where you'll find working girls. Be advised that the quality is relatively low and the price relatively high, but as always to each his own (YMMV).

Playa del Coco is the oldest fishing village in Costa Rica. You'll find some great diving and fishing out of Coco, and lots of roadside souvenir stands. But the "action" is limited. Granted, if you're looking for some, you'll probably find it, but it's never been that plentiful. There have been a couple threads in the past about the limited action in Coco Village.

If you have some "game', you can find some local non-pro action in Liberia, which is about 30 minutes East of Playa del Coco. The city of Liberia is about 10 minutes East of the Liberia Airport, and has some small Tico bars. In the evenings, there's always a few of the local Tica's hanging out.

As Orange mentioned, if you want to venture South, you can find some action in Flamingo or Tamarindo. Just don't expect to find a lot of 10's in either town.

From Coco, you'll head East (Route 151) for about 15-20 minutes, until you come to the main road (Route 21). You'll take a right, and follow the signs towards Flamingo. You'll drive through Filadelfia and into Belén. In the center of Belén (after you pass the park with all the lime green benches on your right hand side) you'll take a right turn towards Flamingo. This will take you through Santa Ana, Coyolito, Cartagena, Portegolpe and into Huacas. When you get to Huacas, you'll come to a fork in the road. If you bear LEFT, that takes you into Tamarindo. If you bear RIGHT, it'll take you through Brasilito and into Playa Flamingo. Either way, at that point, you're only about 15 minutes from either town.

The trip from Playa del Coco to Playa Flamingo or Tamarindo is about one hour and 15 minutes. And they have marked most all intersections (or turns) with plenty of signs, making it very easy to get there. There is another alternate route that is quicker, but it's called the "Monkey Trail" for a reason, and I would not advise a first-timer to try that route! A few of the CRT brothers have taken that route, and they'd probably talk you out of it also!

The majority of action in Flamingo and Tamarindo doesn't start until after 9 pm, so if you plan on taking the trip down there, you should get a hotel room for the night. I would not advise driving from Coco to Tamarindo / Flamingo at night, unless you're very familiar with the roads.

Enjoy your trip, and let us know how everything went, once you return.

Mucho Gusto
