There is now No Limit Texas Hold Em in the DelRey. They have started playing 1 2 NL in the very back room. I saw some familiar faces dealing that used to deal over at the Horseshoe. One of which is very cute with huge tetas, I might add. The game is scheduled to start at 10 am everyday, but I doubt it will get going until late afternoon. They are planning 100 dollar tourneys every Saturday. See you at the tables!

OK, now I'm convinced this place is phucking weird!!! I wake up around noon and get ready to go for lunch. On the way out I stop at the poker tables to see if theyre playing yet. They are. I say hello to Russ (used to run game at Horseshoe and Colonial) and tell him Ill be back from lunch in an hour or so and will play. I get back and the tables are there and there is no one playing. So I go to New Fantasy and have a great session with Karina (anyone know her - very hot - very good). I come back to DelRey and poker tables are GONE and slots are in their place.

I swear, I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. It was the strangest feeling. I actually had to ask myself if I was sure there were tables there 2 hours before.

Someone help me escape please!!!!

The DR was informed that their casino license did not include poker. They closed down the game immediately and have their lawyers trying to obtain the proper licenses to run the game. I have heard from 4 days to 3 months as to a time frame. Oh well,it IS Costa Rica.

What will happen first: the highway to Jaco will be built or DR gets their poker license?

Where does that leave the non-casinos (SL, Hotel M, etc.) who hold poker tournaments?

Hotel M is a "members only" place so I heard that they are allowed to hold private tourney's not open to the public.

And the SL tourney is just a "friendly game among friends"

Hopefully the municipal officials in San Jose will agree with that definition but as the thread "Muy Tico" has shown predicting the actions of Ticos is not an easy task

As I understand the situation, all the live poker games in CR are illegal BUT like most activities, aren't enforced until the authorities decide they want to make a splash. (or need some quick graft) John, owner of the DR has been away in the Gallapagos all week and doesn't even know that the two day old poker game run by Russ has been closed down because of this. It's probably a good idea for the DR to stay closed unless they change the laws because the Govenment would love to put yellow police tape around the successful Gringo place called the Del Rey.

My understanding from an attorney who represents several of the large casinos in town is that poker is not really legal under the costa rica gaming laws. That is why they all advertise Texas holdem but do not use the words poker. Who knows given Tico laws, etc.

This illustrates some of the differences between gambling in CR and Panama. Panama at least has a gaming commission that regulates games and is a source to go to if you feel a casino has cheated you...AND gives protection to the casinos from renegade police or other government employees looking for pay offs. While casinos are obviously making money in Costa Rica...I would hate worrying every day about when some police or municipality person is going to walk in and demand I shut down or pay them some exhorbitant fee to stay open today. CR is a nice place to visit...but I no longer would do business there. And I also would not play machines at those casinos since there is no one regulating the payout percentages like you have in Vegas, Atlantic City and other international gambling destinations.

Gamblers in CR...beware

Seems odd because Colonial and Paradise Fiesta and horshoe all had poker games for over two years they had permits I guess?.
So Maybe they have the permit for those poker games, russ said he made 2X the money he normally does in those two days,
I have a cien that says that the guys running the other games in town called it in because that game would shut all others down,,, they would be running 2-3 tables a night in the DR.
They tried to arrest the owner of Bodog.net with this law, for having a "private" game at his house although he outfoxed them, 30 policia raided his home and by the time they were in they found nothing. I heard prostitution is techinically illegal in CR, but that is incorrect
