Beaches
Here the beaches are beautiful and somewhat private.The jungle meets the sand and wild dogs run! It is an experience

Surfing
Surfing here is great. Peole come from all over the U.S. to surf Costa Rica's waves. Nosara offers good waves and not a load of people waiting to catch them ALL the time.

Monkeys
Who doesn't love monkeys! They are everywhere. Their calls echo from the jungle into your room to wake you up!

Locals
The people in Nosara are extremely friendly and always willing to try and communicate with you. Most people speak a little bit of English but if not, they are smiling anyway! They are excited to have you in their country.

Dining
In Nosara, there are no indoor restaurants! Everything is outside. You may think that the heat would be unbareable but there are fans everywhere, and it is quite pleasant! Bugs aren't really an issue when eating either. The night breeze is a perfect!

Waterfalls
There are some secret waterfalls that locals can tell you about. You hike up some dry riverbeds and end up at a splendid site! Cool off by swimming in the pools at the bottom or for the adventurous, JUMP!

It's on the West coast of the Nicoya Peninsula, half way between Tamarindo and Malpais. Didn't know there was anything going on there though.

Actually, I think there's another Nosara, somewhere in the Central part of the country maybe ???

LONG LONG way from gringo gulch (over 5 hrs drive time) or any P4P talent. Roads to get there are some of the worst in CR...especially in the upcoming rainy months. While real estate has been zooming there with a lot of Europeans, mostly Italians, buying and settling there...I just dont see it. Mostly surfers...a few local hotties for the surfer dudes. But for most of us "aging gringos", dont bother unless you BYOG or like to read a good book on a locals kind of beach.

You can take a boat from Jaco to the Montezuma area if you just want to check it out alot faster than driving.

I have spent some time in Nosara. There are 4-5 beautiful beaches in the area. It was developed as a nature reserve type of developement. So the jungle has not been clearcut and much of the wildlife remains.

It is really spread out so having a car there is necessary. It really is a beautiful place with quite a few hotels and restaurants. The surfing is good at a few of the beaches. It is about a 5 hr drive from San Jose with the last hr being on a rough dirt road. 4 x 4 in the rainy season.

The property there was marketed to North americans so almost everybody except the ticos are canadian or american. I felt like I was still in the states.

Samara which is a 1/2 hr drive to the south has few americans , mainly Italians and germans.

And yes this area is booming but less so than Tamarindo, coco, flamingo

Nosara is not for mongering, but IMHO beats the hell out of Jaco, where I live, or Tamarindo, which I hear has gotten bad for crowds and crime. It is a slower pace, but the pepple are extremely friendly up there. Take a chica. Cell phones don't work very well so she will be isolated and not as distracted as in the other beaches.

Samarra was when I went there hot as hell and full of couples and some surfer types. there was no action to speak of what so ever. If you bring your own entertainment then your set other wise be prepared for a whole lot of nothing. I drove there from SJ and it was an easy drive once you got out of the central valley.

Nosara is definitely not a mongering town, but... it does have a Beetle Bar, in the town of Nosara. The beach area, Playa Guillones, is commonly referred to as Nosara, but you actually have to drive about 15 min inland, towards the Nosara airport, to get to the town of Nosara.

There are 3 or 4 bars, including the Beetle Bar, that have action mostly on weekend nights, especially in high season. Geared more for locals, but they will gladly serve you! I'd say there are certainly gems to be found, but few and far between.

Expect to pay $7-15k with poor quality accomodations wherever you end up finding action. There is also a place called Rikuras (sp?) Night Club about 10 minutes before you hit Nicoya, that has working girls. Usually about 4-6, usually not so great looking, but they charge $14k for an hour with rooms on the premises, and open at 4 or 5 pm.

Other than that, Nosara (Playa Guillones) is about surfing. It truly is one of the top 5 surf beaches in all of Costa Rica.
