Post subject:  rafting from san jose

Hi i was wondering if there are any good class 3 rivers that can be done as a day trip from san jose. I'm not looking for a crazy river, just a fun day trip with a good safe company. The trip will be sometime in july. I just found out today that i may have 5 days to a week off work. However I won't know what days till a few days ahead of time. Are reservations needed with the rafting companies or can i just call when i get to my hotel.

There are class 3, 4 and 5 rafting trips available in CR. July is rainy season and the class 3 trips maybe getting very close to class 4 all depends on how much rainfall.

The tour desk at your hotel can easily arrange everything for you. No reservation required just book one day ahead,

Do they feed us or do I need to take my own lunch?
Do the buses have seatbelts?
Where do I leave my wallet, passport and airline ticket?
Do they provide vests or do I need to bring my own?
Should I wear a swimsuit or are the boats always dry?
Are there mosquitos or other wild animals?
Do you know the name of my guide?
Do they have guys to carry the boats into the water?
Do they mind if I bring my own cooler?
Will there be girls on the trip?
How far down the river do we go?
Are there any waterfalls?
Do we get to fish?
How long does the trip take?
How much does it cost?
Will I be back in time for Happy Hour?
Is there dry cleaning in the wilderness?

Win,
Here are a few of the results of a Google search of "white water rafting in Costa Rica". It took less than 5 seconds. You might also try taking advantage of the "search" function listed at the top of every CRT page.

I gues i was just wondering if people had first hand expierence at this time of year with this type of river within easy distance of san jose. I know that there are rivers that you can raft and they will take you year around. I worked for a rafting company for 6 years here in the states and know what they will say. River will be great pay now. For us the reality was that the river was only worth running for about 3 out of the 7 monthes we were open. Guess i would just rather hear from a bm on there expierences. I have spent enough time in CR to not rely on tour company advertising.

Win,
OK, I was being a wiseass.

The one time I went rafting in CR was in October. It was the end of the rainy season and we actually had to settle for the Sarapiquí River since the Pacuare was too high.

Since this is the beginning of the rainy season you should have no problem finding a good river to run.

Most trips are 1 day. Pick up and return to your hotel. Breakfast and lunch is usually included.

Check out the links I posted and you'll get a good idea of what to expect.

Have fun,
Wit
