I was there last week, I don't mind gambling a bit but like the side shows. I was a bit disappointed that they really didn't have anything exciting there. The hostess was real pretty, they tried hard but I quickly got bored and left.

For the past 6 months they have been talking about shows and pretty ladies, can't wait for that. Will keep them in mind next time.

I gambled there last week. The waitresses are hot and friendly. The hostess are gorgeous and flirtatious. The dealers speak English. I think this place will be a hot spot. I second the other guy's sentiment, when they get suites, let me know, I'm in. And the place is done very nice, it will be a fun casino.

I would love to get one of the hostesses, just not enough time this trip.

Is the Horseshoe Casino in SJ part of the Horseshoe/Harrah's chain in the US?

I do not believe so. I did a reasonable search last summer and found nothing that connected the hotel to Harrahs.

Any updates on the Horseshoe? Did they get things operating as advertised or is it still "evolving"?

What is the latest on the "no free drinks" and casinos only being open from 6PM to 2AM.

No, the Horseshoe has no direct connection to Harrah's Entertainment (soon be renamed Caesars Entertainment).

As for the name. My understanding was since Dewey Tomko, who was a co-owner at one time and finished 2nd in the 2001 WSOP, was buddies with Jack Binion and Jack allowed him to use the name "Horseshoe".
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe previous to that it was called "Cheetah".

Of course now that Dewey has sold his share and Jamie is under indictment for some sort of fraud everything has changed except the name.

Just so you know, the Horseshoe in Las Vegas in not part of the Harrah's chain. The horseshoe was sold to a company in West Virginia, but Harrah's bought the rights to the WSOP from them. Part of the condition to the sale was that part of the WSOP had to be played at the Horseshoe for the two years following the sale.

Harrah's bought the Horseshoe with the sole intent of getting the rights to the WSOP and being able to use the name "Horseshoe" for their other properties in Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana and Mississippi. Harrah's and MTR Gaming Group entered into a "joint operation" with the intent that MTR would eventually take over the actual building.

It isn't even called Horseshoe anymore. It's now Binion's.

The WSOP will be played at the RIO May 30 - July 17.

Binion's is running their own tournament (May 28 - July 8 ) that is actually competing (albeit on a much smaller scale) with the WSOP.

Some history.
http://www.gambling-poker.com/harrahs_binions.html

Jack Binion's sister Becky and her husband drove the place into the ground. I heard complaints about her from a blackjack dealer I got to know clear back in '98. She even sold the $1,000,000 in uncirculated $10,000 bills to a collector.

BUT I'M STILL WAITING FOR UPDATES ON THE HORSESHOE IN SAN JOSE!

Dewey Tomko who is a well known poker pro was one of the owners of the Horseshoe here in San Jose. He was a personal friend of Jack Binion and got permission to use the name.

I stand corrected on the specific detail. I do believe Binion's daughter committed suicide at some point.

No sweat, I love the internet. So much information.

I believe Becky is still alive and well. There were two other daughters but I've never read anything about them.

You may be thinking of Ted Binion. His story is pretty sad. He was a heroin addict who "supposedly" died of an accidental overdose. His ex-stripper girlfriend and her "other" boyfriend were convicted of killing him for the money he had stashed in a vault in the desert.

CSI did an episode loosely based on the story.

They were given a retrial and subsequently released from jail. The jury, having seen the CSI episode, didn't think the forensic evidence proved they were guilty.

Only in America.

For more on the original Horseshoe go to wikipeida and search on "Binion's_Horseshoe". For some reason the link won't work. I think the apostrophe causes it problems.
