YO CR:
I think he needs to rent an apartment for a month and bring lots of dinero and Vitamin V. Hell, I got lost reading the itinerary.

Hope he is young, full of vigor and has mucho dinero.

Not knocking you goirish but seek professional help for this indecision.

Irregardless, enjoy your stay where ever you decide to go.

Thanks CRMonger,

You've given me some really good input and I appreciate it. I'll take your advice on most of the things. I just need to figure out when I want to go rafting from SJ. Perhaps the next morning I get there, though I may be spent from my flight and mongering ;-) I'll figure that one out. If you happen to be there from July 10-18th, I'll buy you a beer or two ;-)

I'm so excited for this trip, and it's only March! :P My trip to Amsterdam a couple of years ago really corrupted me  After that, my outlook on life changed. Not sure if it's for better or worse

Circus,

I think you know me better than I know myself  You're pretty much right about me, expect for the part about having a bunch of dinero. Oh, and I am Vitamin V, so I don't need to take it :P

Guess I'm just overworked right now and can't wait for my trip. I'll keep it simple, no worries.

Goirish.

goirish,
Actually, after thinking about it, given your overall plan I would say Sunday is your best choice for rafting. There isn't as much going on in SJ so it is a good day to get out of town. But the day before you leave would also be good as it makes a great finale for your trip.

I like to think back to my first trip. Most of us have felt the same excitement you are feeling now - the thrill, the anticipation, the uncertainty. You see it in others too, when they post the number of days or even hours until their next trip. The truly amazing thing is that sort of excitement doesn't really go away (except perhaps the uncertainty) with subsequent trips. You are going to have a blast no matter what you do. Do your research here but try not to sweat the details too much.

You're getting a lot of good advice so I'll toss in my 2 cents. The drive to Tabecon is no problem, especially from San Jose. I've driven it from the Guanecaste side and it's a little tougher, but still great!.
My novia (I brought my own) loved Tabecon. We stayed the night and did the hot springs along with a bottle of champagne on the balcony watching the volcano erupt (brought the bubbly from US). A liitle pricier than many things in CR but worthwhile.

If time permits the Guanecaste is beautiful, Playa Del Cocos and Playa Hermosa are 20 minute drives from Liberia where you can fly from San Jose.

Rancho Armadillo in Playa Del Cocos is a great estate with fantastic rooms, 10 minutes from the beach but a private world by itself, especially if you bring your own lady ( don't know about mongering there). Rick, an American is owner and will go out of his way to really help.

Last trip I drove from San Jose (4 hours but real interesting) to Playa Del Coco (had my novia from Honduras with me). Spent a few days there then drove to Tabecon (about 3 hours) the night there and back to San Jose (1.5 hours) great time and sightseeing.

As the others said, this is Latin America, go with the flow, leave the stateside roadrage behind and smell the cofee/flowers/chicas.
