Headed out last night with a friend to check out the action at the new Fiesta Casino near the Airport. This place is easy to see off the main highway on the left just as you leave the Airport going towards San Jose. There is a new Dennys and sign out front which is even easier to see.
I had heard the place is the largest and best casino in San Jose. Reports were just about right. The parking was hard to find and the place was jammed on this Friday night about 10PM. As you walk in it looks like 1 large casino room with "Mayan" style interior design and feel. ON the left coming in the entrace is a large bar and Sportsbar which Wed-Saturday features live bands at night. The band was playing American party music and the dance floor was FULL...almost like a scene from "Wild On Costa Rica". Mostly young people...lots of couples...and then a few of us "mature" citizens mixed in. It definitely had a fun atmosphere. My friend and I did a quick walk around. It's hard to see the table game area amd rest of the casino from the entrance because of the MULTITUDE of slots cluttering the way and making any easy walk throught the casino impossible. Doesnt seem setup for this many people in my opinion, but there was definitely lots of play...though I think there were more people dancing and drinking in the bar. Lots of attractive ladies running around and this might be the new best destination for dogging local regular women.
At the back of the casino we finally found the entrace to the VIP room which is quite nice. Leather chairs and fancy tapestries definitely give it a Vegasee look and feel. The had a poker game going which apparently starts most nights at 8:30PM. The regular game appears to be $100 buyin No Limit Poker, $1-2 blinds. This seems to be the only game played in town now as I had just come from the same NL game at the Horseshoe. I will have to go check the action another time though as my friend doesnt play poker. But...the next best thing is always...the CRAPS table!
There were 5-6 guys playing craps at this nice new table. The new craps team is FAIRLY adept for so early in the game...better than the Colonial craps dealers, but not quite as polished as the Horseshoe. The table was actually quite hot and after I had one of my rare 15 minute rolls, we took the money and ran. Since we were both tired after an earlier session of poker, we didnt really do a thorough examination of the other table games and limits. But...it was a good enough visit to probably encourage me to take the long airport trip to this casino more often...if only to get more time OUT of the gulch

TOnight...all gamblers will be at the new Saturday night Blackjack Tournament at the Casino Paradiso / Hotel Amon Plaza (Clarion). Maybe I can parlay my winnings from last night. Come on down...
