I need to send some friends out fishing in the Pacific. I know that this can be kind of hit and miss. I know a few here have good crews like MuchoGusto. Does anyone else have a success story to share regarding their crew/charter in Costa Rica? Please send me recommendations....

The fishing has been hot and cold out of Costa the last 2 years. There has been a "red tide" from inshore to as many as 8 or 9 miles or more offshore. The water is literally red and devoid of life save the pesky jacks. Therefore you had to really run to find the nicer water that holds fish.... The bottom fishing offshore is always good if have a good captain with numbers that have not been cleaned out. The red tide really killed the Roosterfishing, didn't get a one and typically we get them.

I would advise a short notice trip when the bite is red hot, 2 weeks a month you have the best fishing avoiding the stronger moon phases as you are close to the equator the tides get extreme.

If you wanna catch Billfish then yes its respected as a world class destination but I'm more of a tuna guy

IMO the monger grounds in and around Jaco are hit or miss for fishing, there is much better fishing in panama but its all about timing and being there or going there when the bite is hot. Fishing is very expensive out of Suenos good charters $1650 to $1800 + tips per day
