The Horseshoe is quite a distance from the Hotel Del Rey.

Depending on which door you leave the Del Rey from, the Horseshoe is somewhere between 60 and 80 feet.

No, the Horseshoe does not have rooms. It has a small casino downstairs and a sports book with a number of TVs and a bar upstairs.

The casino offers both rommy and blackjack. They used to have a craps table but it might have been removed. They also have a roulette table and about 30 slots machines.

Anyone know the latest on the Horseshoe slots? They had a few shut down by the Municipal authorities, are they up and running again?

At the present moment, the Horseshoe does NOT have a sportsbook.

By the way the only vegas stlye blackjack I have found is on the second floor of the Fiesta casino coneccted to the Presidente. All the others, the dealer only starts with one card up, so when it is the dealer's turn it will take two cards in a row to bust. BIG DISADVANTAGE!! Play rummy instead of this Blackjack!

With all due respect Grey Goast,I must disagree with your post. First of all,the Blackjack game at the Paradise casino (Amon Plaza) deals the down card to the dealer. (they have installed the peakers) Second and more important, the advantage to the house of not dealing a down card to the dealer is so miniscule that it's bearly calculated when figuring the EV (estimated value) of a blackjack game. I even went back to some of my books to double-check this point and the game condition of no dealer hole card isn't even calculated.I have written before on this same thread that the house advantage on Rommy is significantly greater than BJ.

Sorry to corrupt the thread but I can't repond to PM-

Hola roberto,
4th try-I have problems sending PM's. I'll try again here.
Wow, I'm impressed with myself that she remembered(broma). I'll be there on the 26th and I'm hers-unless you recommend someone I might enjoy more.
I trust your picks more than mine. I am learning to go for the quiet ones though.
Thanks for the PM.
Jeff

Yes I will agree with you but there are circumstances you have to be aware of: The average palyer does not know anything but normal Black Jack... You must know what you are playing and adjust your strategy.... Thaks for the info on the paradise casino over in amon...just recently found out about it.

2.3: The deal of the cards
Once all the bets are made, the dealer will deal the cards to the players. He'll make two passes around the table starting at his left (your right) so that the players and the dealer have two cards each. (European and Australian players: See exception at the bottom of this section.) The dealer will flip one of his cards over, exposing its value.

In the shoe games, the players cards will be dealt face-up, and the players are not allowed to touch the cards. If you're just beginning, you'll probably want to start at the shoe game where you don't have to worry about handling the cards.

In the hand-held games, the player's cards are dealt face down, and the players pick up the cards. When handling the cards in a hand-held game, here are a few important things to remember.

You are only allowed to touch the cards with one hand. If you're a poker player, this can take some effort to break old habits!
You must keep the cards over the table.
Any cards that the dealer subsequently deals to your hand must be left on the table, not added to the cards in your hand.
Once the cards are dealt, play proceeds around the table, starting at the first seat to the dealer's left, also called first base. Each player in turn indicates to the dealer how he wishes to play the hand. The various player decisions are covered in their own section below. After each player has finished his hand, the dealer will complete his hand, and then pay or collect the player bets.

Now, the exception I mentioned: Some casinos, mostly in Europe, give the dealer only one card face up until all the players have finished their hands. The dealer then deals his second card, and finishes his hand. This is called the European No Hole Card rule. This can change a player's strategy if, and only if, the dealer collects all player bets in the event of a dealer blackjack. Some casinos that deal only one card at first to the dealer will refund any double-down or split bets if the dealer turns out to have a blackjack. This type of no hole card rule does not have any effect on the player's optimal strategy, and should not be described as European No Hole Card rules.

Thanks for your additional input. HOWEVER the only casino here in SJ that offers real blackjack (Horseshoe) with no-hole-card ,returns any double-down or split extra bets in the case of a dealer blackjack. So as I said, and your article agrees , "there is NO measurable difference on a hole card,or no-hole-card game of blackjack." Either game is far better than the off the top house advantage in Rommy.
