Greetings,
We'll (a group of 4 guys) be in CR for 6 days at the end of Feb and will be staying in Jaco for a couple of days. I've done quite a bit of research for some offshore or near shore fishing trips. The outfit that offers a DRT discount charges anywhere from $1000 to $2700 a day. A little steep, i'd say. They want $1000 for a day on a 32' sportfisher....ya right. WTF, this is Central America, not Hawaii.
Is there smaller, maybe ponga type boats, that locals take will out a couple of guys available??.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

You should be able to find something much cheaper when you get to town, in the 400-600 range or so. Most hotels can hook you up with something, or when you are in the middle of town (you can't miss it Jaco is so small) there are a couple of tour companys that can arrainge it for you.

Hal01,

I just returned from a full day deep sea fishing on Quepos, 35 foot boat, drinks, snacks, lunch included 4px $550, i'd say not bad, but that was in Quepos. Honestly Quepos has defenetly more action that Jaco.

As someone said once you get there you should get something better than the prices quoted.

My two cents

Mente

Sluthog went out of Quepos last week on a smaller boat for $400 day...and caught many...well...I should let Sluthog brag about his own conquests. Lets just say he was busy all day and wore out at the end  We can probably hook you up with the same deal...

Hal01,

Fished out of Quepos on a 35 ft boat for $650. The price included beer, lunch, fresh fruit... Much cheaper than the states, plus the crew had a much different attitude. Instead of yelling at us like they do in the states, they thought we paid for the boat and should enjoy ourselves. Really blew us away. Oh yeah, we caught all the sailfish we wanted, plus a dorado for dinner.

Pura vida

Went out last week with a guy named George Dobson on the "Cuervo", lost his card, but you could probably contact him at Los Suenos(I don't believe that he is associated with CR Dreams), Beatle Bar or Claritas. 31 foot boat that he bought from Captain Tom last year. He charged $650 and provided real decent food etc. If you catch up with him, tell him Fabio sent ya

Quepos has many more boats to pick from, and is cheaper than Jaco, old supply and demand.. Its High Season and the very attractive 1:45 min drive to Jaco in the AM fish all day then back to the DR for your catch of the night allows Jaco to charge more for their charters....

Quepos is further but you can find a good deal there and the fishing is incredible! Next time to Quepos, I'll see about some discounts for the crew here!
