As we move into January - Thats means Florida Should be heating up (COLD HERE) BRRRR - but it also means 2 year olds turn 3 and the path to the Kentucy Derby begins in Gulfstream Park.
As you know the Ponies are my passion and I have quite a few contacts in the game. Today at Gulfstream Race #8 is very good NX1 Allowance race with many of the entries today testing their merit to see if they are good enough to start planning a racing strategy towards the 1st Saturday in May.
It also has a 2 Year old Breeders Cup Juvenial participant along with multiple class horses that have run in G1 or G2 Stakes races. What makes it very interesting is a friend of mine from NY who owned a Breeders Cup entry called to tell me he had a piece of the #10 horse Remand. He said the horse should be 2nd or 3rd choice and had a good chance of being right there at the end. With very young 3 year olds that is all you can hope for.
Well he ran a bullet workout on Wed 36.2 for 3 furlongs and he was breezing yet odds makers still have him at 12-1 morning line. We don't expect him to be 12-1 but he will still be of very good value. The owners think he has real chance to be a player in May so this is a good 1st test on a 1 turn Mile. -- Now he is stretching out off his 6 furlong maiden romp and running on dirt vs poly where he broke Maiden at Keenland so many IF IF IF factors here but at 12-1 he is worth a play!.
So Good luck to those who choose to take a shot and it is a shot but its a solid value play.
