Hi gang, I will be there in a week and was wondering about who knows good spots besides El Pueblo to find civilian chicas. El Pueblo is great and I have met with success there but I dont want to go there every night. And by the way, I go to El Pueblo to get away from the hookers but have been hit on there more than once I remember a post by somebody but I cant bring it up about sat night dances at the Irazu hotel. Does anyone know of any upscale clubs in Escazu or anywhere else that single chicas frequent?? My new MO is to get out of the gulch and attempt to meet civilians and if I have no luck head back to BM/KL about 12.30ish nights for a sure thing. Hopefully the ol pitiful junkyard dog is gonna get to sniff and wag the tail of somthin besides the BM putas this trip... Thanks,, Junkyard Dog,,, still lots of bark but aint much bite left....

Hotel Irazu has a singles dance every 3 months. I think the next one is at the end on Jan. The hotel has a bar with music and dance floor that gets lively on the weekends. Tobogon is huge and is the best place to dance in San Jose. The jazz club in San pedro draws an upscale crowd. Bar Castro in barrio mexico is another place to dance with the locals. As is bar mexico. Look at ads for clubs and music in the Nation newspaper for more ideas.

I can't promise anything but you might get some ideas on clubs from this site.

you mentioned the top disco in san jose- tobo...
and a hotel; these places are probably more modern
so should i feel safe as a gringo?

i went to a local columbian disco/bar but i was with a columbian
i've known and she knew people there so i wasn't concerned

but how do you feel tico attitudes are toward outsiders at their local
discos?

I have been to a few local places, upscale and not-so-upscale, and generally I feel pretty safe. I can speak fair (not good) Spanish and I am a mellow and large guy. I usually find Ticos friendly to me more than anything else. I have not had any luck picking up any non-pros at a place like Castro's yet, but I will give it a shot someday when my Spanish gets to the point where I can understand as well as speak it. Two different kettles of fish, believe me. I can ask all the questions but never understand the answers!

Remember a few months ago you posted you were going to check out he singles dance at the the Hotel Irazu. If you did and posted the result I missed it, sorry. Can you give us an update on it. Thanks.

The hotel Irazu singles dance is held in a ballroom every three months. I went to the last one with my novia the last saturday in Oct. I think the cost is 5k including the buffet dinner. The women greatly outnumber the men. Most of the women are 25-55 but there were some young hot Ticas also. There were many good looking women waiting to dance and meet someone. A few gringos were there although most just watched. If a guy spoke a little spanish, was polite , dressed up a little he would meet as many Ticas as he wanted. As for the other question about safety. My novia looks about 10 years younger than me and we do not go to dives so I can't say I have ever felt uncomfortable anywhere. After all they are the little people. Once in samara someone was staring at her at a dance place late at night. I can't speak for the dives but in a normal place I don't think you will have any problem unless you bring it on yourself.
