Here is a package for guys who want to combine a fishing tournament (fish) with a poker tournament (chips). Some big money on the line for the winer.

"FISH AND CHIPS COSTA RICA is a 6 NIGHT/ 7 DAY TROPICAL ADVENTURE AND
EXCLUSIVE AS THERE WILL BE ONLY 21 PARTICIPANTS!!!!!

$50,000.00 IN CASH AND PRIZES!!!!!!!!!!!

More than the sun is heating things up in Costa Rica this year. Team
Reel
Deal, S.A. is launching the world first exclusive competition to
combine Texas
Hold-em poker and tropical sportsfishing into one exciting package that
puts
$50,000 in cash and prizes on the table. Just twenty-one people will be
allowed to participate in each tournament to be held the 17th
September, 15th
October, and 12th November of 2007 with eight tournaments in 2008
slated to
begin in April.

The fishing off Costa Rica's central pacific coast is world-renowned.
The
plentiful sailfish, marlin, and red snapper challenge fishermen of
every level
of experience. But now, there's more than just the thrill of the catch
to
look forward to. The exclusive package developed by Fish & Chips and
Byblos
Resort and Casino brings the heat and excitement into the night with a
6 night
/ 7 day adventure.

Participants make their own travel arrangements to Costa Rica's capital
city,
San Jose. Once they land, Fish & Chips hospitality experts will meet
them and
provide them with their itinerary. At that point you will have the
time to
enjoy the beautiful historic city of San Jose and all of it's
attractions.
After breakfast the following morning, participants will take a short
flight
to the coastal town of Quepos, home of Costa Rica's most famous
national park,
Manuel Antonio.

The package includes entry into the competitions, first night stay in
San
Jose, deluxe accommodations in Manuel Antonio at Byblos Resort and
Casino,
daily breakfasts, and air and ground transportation. Participants get a
real
VIP treatment from Fish & Chips, with gift baskets, a meet and greet
banquet,
a one-hour massage or choice of adventure tour. Adventure tours
included a zip
line tour through the rainforest, white water rafting, ocean kayaking,
horseback riding through the jungle, or a tour of the national park
Manuel
Antonio. Guests will also have a personal concierge service to take
care of
their every need.

Here's how the competition works. The first half of Fish & Chips is a
three
person per boat tournament where participants decide between an
off-shore
pursuit of marlin and sailfish or an in-shore focus on red snapper,
tuna, and
mahi-mahi. Each marlin caught will be worth 250 points and each
sailfish is
valued at 100 points, with the weight of the combined snapper, mahi and
tuna
worth one point per pound. The person with the most points wins the
$15,000.00
grand prize. But you don't have to be the best to put some cash in your
pocket. There will also be prizes for the largest mahi ($1,000.00),
snapper
($500.00), and tuna ($250.00) as well as a $750.00 prize for the most
fish
caught overall. With only twenty-one competitors, one skilled and lucky
fisherman is really going to clean up. And everyone is sure to have a
lot of
fun trying. Those odds are hard to beat, but the competition will still
be
tough.

After a relaxing day and when the sun goes down, the second half of
Fish &
Chips starts to shine. An all-out Texas Hold-em poker tournament with
first
prize of $10,000.00, second prize of $5,000.00 and third prize of
$2,500.00
will keep the competitive spirit going and put each person's skills to
the
test. The unpredictable and aggressive nature of Texas Hold-em provides
a good
balance to the slow "Pura Vida" Costa Rica experience.

Fish & Chips organizer Jammer Roberts says, "Costa Rica is the ideal
place to
host Fish & Chips. My feelings are even stronger about that fact since
I have
seen the unforgettable accommodations for the competitors and poker
tournament
the staff at the Byblos Resort and Casino are providing. The people
are
beautiful and friendly, the tropical weather and natural beauty are
first
rate, and the fishing is great. The only thing that can make it better
is a
friendly and exciting tournament with fair odds and fantastic prizes.
That's
why we've put Fish & Chips together. It's all about having fun, and
we’ll
make sure anything our guests want is available to them."

"We've got people interested from the U.S. and Canada, of course, but
also
South America, Europe and Asia because the love of fishing and poker
has no
national or cultural boundary," observes Jammer. "That's why Fish &
Chips is
so exciting and different."

It's an ingenious and novel idea that organizers expect will sell out
quickly
and become a worldwide attraction. Combining the sun and surf of one of
the
world's most popular tourism destinations with two of the world's most
popular
high spirited sporting activities is truly unique. And, it all goes
well
together. Especially after considering the low entry fee of $5,000!

"Unlike a casino or riverboat gambling, there so much more to do in
Costa
Rica," says Fish & Chips founder Bill Disegna. "It's different than
other
competitions because you've got two entirely separate ways of winning.
If you
don't have luck on the boat, you might have luck with the cards. Either
way,
you've going to have the adventure of a lifetime."

$5,000 Per Person entry fee. "

I count $35,000 paid out, not 50K. That's $70k for the organizers. They're the only winners IMO.

Have to agree with the above..This is a bonanza for the ORGANIZERS

35,000 in payouts. Food, tours and rooms for 21 I will guess an additional 10,000, OK maybe 15,000 being VERY generous. 7 boats at an inflated rate of $1000 per day per boat is an additional 7,000 with extras (bait, food and drink) lets say 10,000.

Am I leaving anything out (I am sure nothing significant)

Organizers make maybe $ 45,000..If there is a true 50,000 payout (which I do not see in the calculations above) Organizers ONLY make $30,000.

Let me first say I posted a news article for information. I am not connected with or promoting this venture in anyway.

If you examine any commercial "tournament" the promoters are going to make a profit. How much profit in relationship to expenses is a variable.

El Silencioso calculates the profit at 30K while Orange says 70K. Who knows? If the package appeals to you, a weeks vacation with fishing, gambling, tours, first class meals and rooms for $5000 with a chance to pay nothing in fact walk home with a few extra dollars, thats all that matters.

Do you think guys who stay a week at the ZB do multiple daily sessions and a couple of chicas for TLN each night worry about how much profit Eddy made from them that week? HELL NO! all they care about is that they enjoyed the weeks vacation.
