Gringos,

I have spent HOURS reading through this forum and have gotten excellent information to help me and my group prepape for our buddy's wild bachelor party in CR! With quite a large group (10 guys), we all want to make the most out of this trip. I've mentioned this before but I'll mention once more that the majority of our group is not into the P4P thing (but I cant wait to see what they'll do once they see these fine ass hunniez), however a few of us are. Anyways, our first three nights will be in SJ and our next three nights were going to be Jaco, but as of late, we have given strong consideration to Manuel Antonio. Let me quickly explain why.

The actual bachelor really doesn't want the whole raunchy, hoe-filled atmosphere the whole time in CR. Eventually we'll get tired of partying and will want to relax. Our dilemma is:

After reading several posts, I get mixed reviews on Jaco, with many saying it is not worth going to, it is dirty, humid, trashy, not very pretty, etc...I also see a fair share saying it's not as bad as everyone thought. Because of this, we have put MA into the schedule and are really considering staying there all three nights, and maybe going to Jaco one night.

Could anyone go further into detail as to the differences with Jaco and MA. I know they arent too far away from each other, but MA just seems to be ALOT nicer. Are there still clubs, discos, MP's in Manuel Antonio or Quepos? Are there spots to pick up non-pros?

I'd love to hear your different experiences.

Thanks,
Devantay

Quepos is the town--the beach area is in Manuel Antonio, which also is the name of the beach --about 10 klicks south although the two are one for most purposes.

The beach is one of the nicest I have ever been to anywhere, especially during the week when it's really empty. Some week ends during their dry season (ending now) it fills up with CRican's, but even then there's plenty of room--it's about a 2 mile beach, app.

There are lots of day trips near by, rafting, ATV tours, canopy zipping, not to mention world class fishing out of Quepos, and cheap compared to USA.

There are lots of pretty good restaraunts both near the beach and in Quepos. Stick with sea food--fresh as it gets and they know what to do with. Steak/meat?-- not for me there, maybe chicken at Costa Verde--sets up a huge bbq pit at night.

Nightlife--Disco's? A few, not probably what you'd like. Still, a bunch of guys will still have fun in Quepos at night hitting the Banco Bar, Wacky Wanda's, Great Escape, Sgt Garcia's, a few others.

Non pro action is there but it takes time to develop unless u get really lucky. Pro action is there in spurts in the bar next to Wacky Wanda's at night, and on the street right there, slim pickings most times. The two night clubs with a PFP set up are to be avoided at all costs--huge rip off joints and only so so girls.: Itzamana , off the road coming in from Jaco, and Leyla's ( or current name), big, white compound right on the road from the airport--do not go, not even to look--that'll cost u.

Easy choice based on your situation--Manuel Antonio. Fly, 25 minutes, don't drive. Rent one car from Economy, online--not from there--they will pick u up at airport for free--car will cost you $25 a piece or so for the three days and u will use the hell out of it because you will get sick of waiting/taking taxis from the beach/hotel area to Quepos. Get an automatic--stick shift is a pain in the ass, almost dangerous in some parts, on the hill going toward MA when you are behind a bus or truck.

You will love the beach.

Devantay,

Don't bring your bro' down for a bachelor party. He'll want to cancel the wedding.

The choice is simple: For better/prettier beaches, better hotels, a national park right next door etc. the choice is Quepos/Manuel Antonio. M.A. is actually about four miles down the coast from Quepos; north of Quepos are also several fine little beach towns.

Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio was Costa Rica's first national park and is beautiful, despite high tourist traffic. Playa #3 is a Hollywood movie-perfect tropical beach; you have to walk there, maybe even fording a small river or two. Trails are fairly well marked, and certified guides can be hired for a few bucks an hour. Yes, you'll see cinnamon ringtail monkeys, maybe squirrel monkeys, caymans and other critters. Many bars/restaurants are clustered around the park entrance; I like Dos Gemelos for cold beer and good sandwiches.

Hookers are available around Quepos, but be sure to check I.D.'s, as reports of under*ge hooker wannabees have been lately circulating.

I've never stayed in Jaco, but the afternoon/evening I spent there was less than stellar. Yeah, it gets hot and humid particularly during the dry season (November-April), but shit...the coastal regions of Latin America are all hot and humid.

DGD's advice above is exactly correct. I would add that hookers occasionally work the casino at the Best Western Kamuck in Quepos, although as DGD says, the action is sporadic at best.

One place he forgot to mention, and which I just thought of is Bar Rosa, north end of Quepos. If it's still there, you can bang a hot 3 - 5 (hahaha) for around $50.00.

All of the above is right on the money.

There is an informal weekly schedule among the party crowd. This is what was reported to me by one of the locals:

Monday Night: Hotel Bibilos/Ladies Night

Tuesday and Thursday: The Lounge (Wed is Reggie night at the Lounge)

Friday: Tsunami Sushi in Quepos

Saturday: Barbaro

Late Night (Nightly): Arcoedis Disco in Quepos. This place definitely is geared to the local crowd and not to tourists, so it is not as polished as the places on the hill (MA).

I did not hit the whole circuit. It appeared to me that there is a party crowd of 50 to 100 that move from one place to the next. It seemed like I was seeing the same people everywhere I went. Fun group though.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there are any MPs in Quepos.

Taxis more expensive in MA than anywhere else. Every 10 minute trip is 2000 Colones ($4). I found a couple Taxistas that were more reasonable ($2). It adds up quick because you need a ride pretty much everywhere you want to go outside Quepos. Quepos itself is probably more gritty than Jaco, but once you are up on the hill on the road to MA, the enviornment is much nicer and it is a little cooler than being down at sea level.

My opinion is, if you guys want P*ssy, don't listen to these other lame suggestions on M.A.---the pu*sy "IS" in Jaco. Also, I have found numerous other things to do in the daytime, tours, fishing, etc after 7 years down there. If for some reason you can't hook up in the daytime, make arrangements the nite before. The detractors of Jaco just haven't done their homework, or are phirggin lazy. DUH, life is way too easy in Jaco if you know what you are doing

I would not dissagree with that statment. However, it appears tha you must not have read his post and you may just a bit off point.

P4P is not their top priority. In fact most of thier group is not interested in p4p at all.

Are you trying to say that Jaco is a nicer destination than Manuel Antonio? Hell, I will argue that point all day long.

So who is lame brother? :) Peace

As always, YMMV, MA and Quepos do nothing for me,as I have been there 10 times, whereas Jaco seems to fit my needs to a tee. Perhaps, it is the friends that I have made there after 7 years, or the experiences that I have had there, but kccostarica you are welcome to your opinion,P4P or not, argue all you want. Lame who?

Diablo,

If you had read Devante's original post, he was asking for information beyond pu$$y. That's why the "lame" suggestions were made above.

Devantay:

I just noticed tourism people put out a 7 minute promotional on MA and it is posted on You Tube. Just search "Quepos Costa Rica" where I found it. It's kind of "lame" but it will give you a decent visual of the area. It doesn't show Quepos at all and doesn't do real justice to the beaches though. Anyway, worth the 7 minutes.

Diablo, I meant no disrespect and I am not dissing on Jaco. Everyone has different tastes and these guys are looking for a little more of a classy type atmosphere than what Jaco has to offer. MA/Quepos is certainly lacking in the p4p action category, there is no question about that. If you are looking for a more upscale experience, and not looking for p4p, MA is the choice.

Davante, I’ll bet $10 that you are on the money about your brothers. They can say all they want about no p4p. One trip into the DL and they will fold up like tents. HA HA, I bet some that are most against it will be the ones that go the furthest off the hook. There are just no words to prepare them for that experience. If you want to get your party off to a rocking start, get them into the DL (just for ONE BEER, be sure to wait until 9 or 10 pm, the later the better) and let nature take its course. :) All their moral indignation will not hold up to the onslaught that they will face. It will be like leading sheep to slaughter. Trust me on this!
