Has anybody had any experience bass fishing in CR? I know Lake Arenal is supposed to be a great spot for it, but is there anywhere closer to San Jose? I don't want to get too far away from the real purpose of my visit.

Arenal is about a 4 hour drive from SJ, but well worth it. The little town of La Fortuna has a couple of bass guides. I had one in Nov, named Tircio. Great guide with a good bassboat. He charged $150 for a half day. Afterwards we took my 5 pound guapote peacock bass to a restaurant in town for my lunch. If you ask guestions in La Fortuna, it is not hard to find a bass guide.

My advice would be to take a honey from SJ to Arenal for 2-3 days. enjoy her, the fishing, hot springs and all that the area has to offer. In the end it will be a superior experience to simply staying in SJ.

Also while in La Fortuna ask in the local restaurants if they have langostinos del rio on the menu. These are 15 inch long FRESHWATER crawfish. Delicious and not available in most areas.
