I took my racquet when I visited San Jose in February. I could not work out a match. I was informed that the best place is the San Jose Tennis Club, where you can stay. I assume that a guest can play. As a nonguest, I was told that I couldn't play unless I was a member of club. I didn't pursue this. There are some public courts, to which you can take a taxi. Of course you need a partner to be sure you have a match.
BTW, I have tentatively planned a trip near the beginning of December, and would enjoy playing. I am a decent intermediate player. This would be a great diversion from the bars and other vices.
