| Post subject: | Help! - I need a hotel recommendation (Feb 10 - 13) |
My buddy & I are planning our first trip to C.R. (Feb 10 - 13), but can't seem to find a place to stay. I did manage to get a single room at Del Rey on 2/10 & 2/12, but they have no available rooms on the 11th. Also, my buddy was not able to get a booking there for any night. I've called El Presidente & Sportmans' Lodge - no luck at either hotel. The persons working reservations suggested I keep calling back in hopes that someone cancels. Where else should I try? What hotels in the same general area are on par with Del Rey, Presidente & Sportmans in terms of prices, levels of service & that are Tica friendly? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm so looking forward to this trip. |

TD, I can think of two hotels close by. Castillo Hotel is just around the corner from SL. VIP members get 25% off. https://costaricaticas.com/news.php?id=228 Amon Plaza is in the same general area email Nixon: paradisorooms@hotmail.com for info. Do a search on both for more info/reviews. Also, I wouldn't move around that much, you will tire yourself out. It's a pain in the ass to keep checking in and out and you'll be wasting very limited and precious time in CR at the Hotel desk. |

Most of the hotels in the downtown area are chica friendly pretty much. Also, you can get one for pretty much any price range. - Best Western is like 55$ a night, and charges 10$ a girl. - Holiday Inn is like 90$ a night and 10$ girl fee I believe. - Castillo will run you about 45$ a night after tax and discount, and no girl fee - Amon Plaza I think was 65 or 70$ a night, and no chica fee. - Gran Via (? block or two from Presidente ) or something like that is about 50$ a night and no girl fee from what I was told. In short, check out the VIP map and make some phone calls. |

Sorry J-mack, but there are numerous downtown hotels which are not chica-friendly. However, here are some which are: As J-mac mentioned: Hotel Gran Via (NOT Gran AHotel Costa Rica), the Costa Rica Hotel Morazan (NOT the Hotel Morazan B.&B.), hotel Europa, Hotel Clarion/Amon Plaza, Castillo and others as mentioned. Note the addition of the Europa (the downntown Europa, not the Radisson Europa near the airport) to J-Mac's list. Try the Morazan; it's a half block from the HDR/KL area, is chica-friendly and rooms can be had on special for under $50.00/night. The following hotels are known to be chica unfriendly: Hotel Don carlos Hemingway Inn Gran Hotel Costa Rica Sleep Inn (as proven by their ridiculous chica "guest fee.") Hotel Santo Tomas Hotel Grano d'Oro Hotel Fleur di Lis Hotels for the budget minded, chica friendly although may charge additional fees: Hotel Nuevo Johnson $10.00/night Hotel Doral $20.00/night Hotel Asia, $10.00 - 15.00/night, Raid not included. Hope this helps. A search on any of the hotels listed above will yeild more information. Have fun, don't be a typical gringo as*hole and never pay cien ($100.00) for an hour of her time. Hope this helps. |

Your correct El Ciego, there are hotels that are unfriendly. I was just trying to give the impression that the list goes beyond whats mentioned here on a daily basis ( presidente, SL, HDR etc ) None the less thanks for adding to the list |

Try the Morazan. It's right next door to the Del Rey and basically attached to the Key Largo (walk out the side door of Key Largo and can go right into the Morazan). High Season rate $49 tax included single room and $79 tax included Junior Suite. No chica fee, no limit I'm not a salesman for the place and sometimes they try to jack up the rate but it's a decent place when all others are booked (It's in the middle of the Gulch action and I still have breakfast at the Presidente "rail"). Some of the other places mentioned are in quieter locations if that's what you are looking for. Here's the contact information (Just get a confirmation number when you book): Telephone: (506) 222-4622 Fax: (506) 222-4722 E-Mail: info@costaricamorazan.com Website: www.costaricamorazan.com |

Broadway: Thanks for the link to their web page. That is something that guys have been looking for but no one could ever find. Must be new. Admin, anyway to set up a sticky that would have the phone/email/web site for chica friendly gulch hotels? I know you want to support those that give a CRT discount but it could be set up recommended (CRT sponsor) and other (non CRT sponsor. Just a thought but this is a constant question from newbies and a sticky might help. |

Excellent idea. A few days ago, I was trying to book for Memorial Day weekend and my usual SL (new wing) was already booked. I had trouble finding the contact info for the various hotels around the gulch. I had to post and people quickly helped out, but it would've been nice to have a sticky in place. Doing a search produces pages and pages of threads. I tried narrowing it down to a specific forum but it was still a lot to go through. |

That sticky would sure help filter out newbie questions. I'm shocked how so many people on this board are so helpful and quite pleasant. Replying to the same questions asked since A.D. Personally for me I would I suggest newbies to RTFF. I'm glad there are so many cool people on CRT. They sure helped me on my virgin trip but, I never ask questions that are simple to solve by the search button. I mean I see this happen all the time and it always happen to be the person first post also. I cheers you all for being so helpful but, it also supports my view on finding more low key mongering spots. SJO is getting to popular for its own good. |
