I flew them a couple times around August/September for around $400 to SJO and now their flights are in the $800s.. They were flying mostly through Ft Lauderdale but seem to be even routing that traffic up to Charlotte then to SJO.. Still though, insane pricing... Delta's showing some up pricing for a few months out too. Is it probably just high-season related?

US Air is no longer flying from Lauderdate to SJO. In the east all flights are routed through Charlotte except 1 Sat flight direct Phila to SJO. :( :(

My buddy wants to come down with me for Memorial Day weekend, "off-season". He's flying out of Charlotte and he's seeing $650. I told him to wait because they will probably lower the fares closer to the travel dates as the planes aren't filling up. Now if people pay these ridiculous prices, well then obviously they won't lower prices. I am seeing a fare of $606 on Taca out of NYC, but it should be around $400-450, so I'm going to wait a month or two before I book it.

Now, if it would just warm up a little, it'd be a lot better. It's only going to hit 78 degrees today ! Man, I'm freezing !!! (hee, hee, hee) :P

Jmac,
You lucked out. I still can't get less than $606. It was a half-day sale on Monday. I just missed it by 5 minutes. I'm pretty sure the prices will drop closer to travel date.

Ah well, I think being 100% flexible and able to leave on any one day also had alot to do with it.

I booked last week for 570. Today its 690. Have been watching prices for late March since late Nov. Its like a mini stock market, up and down. I know I booked high I think it will come down lower. I saved my flight info on Expedia and watch the price everyday. They say best time to book,30 to 60 days before departure. This is from the Midwest

Late Nov 690
Dec 620 to 690
Early Jan 690,650,630,570(Bought) 3 days later 690 again.
Today 674

I think in the 30 to 60 day window they will come down to 500 to 520.

Im curious as to how long this will go on.

I think PART of it has to do with Spring Break. Prices this time of year are always weird, and change quite a bit depending on how many seats have been sold at certain times. I think once Feb roles around and they have a good idea of how many travelers theyll have during the break time frame, they will then adjust their price.

I mean it makes sense for them. Most people, especially students on a budget will start looking at a spring break vacation, what, 2-3 months ahead? Airlines are probably just trying to profit from it more then ever with the gas price increases theyve encountered.

I'm a member of Taca frequent flyer program and I received an email today about the Taca sale to Latin America. I guess people aren't willing to pay $600.

NY to SJ starts at $329... but the catch is that it's only good through March.

I need a flight for May. I'll just wait.

I've used US Air twice, Ft. Lauderdale direct to San Jose. It was a great price and easier for me than Miami. Now they want you to fly to Ga or NC first. It turns a 2 3/4 hour flight into 8 or 9 hours and doubles the price :x . It is any wonder the airlines are going broke!
