| Post subject: | Hotel in San Jose |
I'll be in San Jose in February and need a hotel in a good location: - Phone in room - Safe large enough to fit laptop - If possible wireless internet - Chica friendly / if possible no fee - Good, central location (Dr. Strangelove likes to stumble home) I checked the Presidente, but out of the 5 nights I am going to stay, for 2 they have no vacancy and I hate to switch hotels during the trip. Any ideas? |

And your budget? Always important, as if you are willling to pay more, chances are you'll always be able to find what you want. Hotel Del Rey is as central as you can get, and has all those requirements. Not sure if the Sportsman has an in room safe or not, havent read anything on that and the website doesnt claim anything about it. Another option would be Hotel La Gran Via. Its actually 2 blocks from Presidente ( like 2 minute walk tops ). It has all your "requirements". Hotel Balmoral is right across the street from the Presidente, but I think only the "Premier" rooms @ 85$ a night have the in room safe. Plenty of decent options. If you sign up for the VIP membership, you can get some good rates on affiliated hotels, and also you can gain access to a map which layouts all the various hotels/restaurants/clubs etc. |

I stayed at the Del Rey 2 years ago. It was OK, but I wanted to try something different. Anything up to $ 75 / night is OK. How is the Hotel Casino Morazon, any experiences? I have business to take care off during the week, thats why I need the phone and laptop, than Friday night and Saturday is for partying, so I need a Hotel thats good for both, I am afraid if I stay at Del Rey I won't be able to get any business done (I couldn't pass by the bar without getting drinks). Thanks for all the info guys. |

Its chica friendly, yes. As for a fee, Im not really sure. If anything it would be 10$ for a guest, but if I recall correctly its free. I havent stayed at the Morazon, but Ill just pass along some info that Ive spotted as of late. Supposingly some people have grabbed rooms for 39$ a night, and you can take as many chicas back there as you want. From what Ive seen on the net the rooms appear fine, but the outside looks a bit run down compared to the other hotels. At the higher end of your spectrum, 69$ a night will get you a room at the good ol Amon Plaza, which also has a casino. Great reviews have been heard about it, and you get a free breakfast. A little ways from the Del Rey but you could easily grab a cab back and forth for less then a buck |

Hotel La Gran Via is chica friendly and there is never a chica fee. The room safe will definitely NOT fit a lap top and there is no internet capability. |

Thanks Ding Dong. I might try the Gran Via. I just bring my cheap 2nd laptop and go to internet cafes. Did you stay at the Gran Via? Is it good? How are the rooms/beds? Thanks again for your help. |

Try the Bestwestern downtown. Yes, it's in a bad neighborhood and you need to take a cab. And there is a chica fee. But the price is like $55 a night and it's a really comfortable hotel. Still come out ok unless you are taking 3-4 different chicks a day back to the room. Happy, I finally got an apartment in the city and don't have to look for hotels anymore. |

Yes I have stayed a number of times at the Gran Via. I always found it a very pleasant place to stay. The staff speak english, the rooms are clean, no chica fee, free full american breakfast (restaurant on premises), close to everything, mini-fridge in your room and super market next door to stock it with snacks and drinks. On the other hand rooms in front face Avenida Central and can be noisy in the early morning (from 6 AM). Hotel is not fancy but has either 2 comfortable beds or 1 queen bed and a desk in each room. Bathrooms small but functional. Price is negotiable and varies on length of stay. The last time I stayed there I was there for 3 weeks and paid $30.00 per night which included taxes and breakfast. That rate and any best rate is for cash paid in full when you check in. I know a lot of people who stay there every time they come to San Jose in fact 2 of my amigos from Miami are checking in on Thursday for 10 days. They are repeat customers. |
