I'm taking a total non-pro out to lunch next friday. She is terrified of the gulch. She's also a little high maintenance and doesn't even like El Pueblo. She tends to hang with friends in Escazu. You guys probably think I'm crazy. But, she is totally hot!!! Don't flame on me too hard.

Please send recommendations in SJ. Nothing too fancy, but nice. Thanks bros!

Escazu...
You can do the Americana in Escazu such as Tony Romas, TGI FRidays...

Something different local flare, Inka Grill, Tre Fratelli,

Have fun!

You might try the Café de Artistas in Escazu. It is a unpretentious little café in a building housing different artisans and a small art gallery. Chicas think it is romantic and the food is good and reasonable. Owner is a gringo.

Taj Majal in Escazu or Cafe Mundo in Barrio Amon if that isn't too close to the gulch. Cafe Mundo is a good date place.

Chi,
Here's one that might be right down your alley.....
Had a chance to try out this Italian restaurant on my last trip (a few weeks ago). It's located in the Itzkatzu Plaza in Escazu (There's a Hooters Restaurant and Outback Steakhouse in the same plaza). It was about a 15 - 20 minute taxi ride from the gulch (3,000 colones for taxi). The food was fantastic. Real nice (romantic) atmosphere. Our bill (for 2 people- plus drinks) was around $60 dollars. If you like Italian, try out this place!

If she hangs out in Escazu, you might try asking HER where she likes. My preference is,as Admin 1 said, for lunch would be Tre Fratelli. Take her there, and your high maintenance chica will know she has someone who will care for her needs. lol She will probably run into her friends there.

while I, sadly, lack any experience wining and dining high maintenance Ticas...

I do have experience, also sadly, wining and dining high maintenace Gringas

the artsy-fartsy venues seem to work stateside...

try showing her your sensitive, cultural side....hahahaha

(now where's that art/cultural section from the daily paper...?)

It is far from Escazu, but Bakea may be a reasonable choice. It may be too close to the gunch for her taste though. Several people have reviewed it here and there was a rave review in AMCostaRica. One of these days I'll have to eat there.

Thanks for all of the tips. I'm still wondering how this will all play out. She is a beautiful girl, but younger than myself. She just finished beauty school... nail design.. the situation reminds me of the movie Grease... where i'm dating a beauty school dropout. My last serious gringa was a marketing executive for a large life insurance company and made good money. LOL. Anyway... she claims that dating a guy in his 30's when she is barely 20 is cool. Obviously, I'm fine with it to a certain degree. If she starts smacking gum and talking gossip... i'm walking. However, I doubt the higher class chicas behave like average gringas.

I also think she knows why I pay visits to CR... she's not stupid. Brings rise to an obvious question.... if it does work out... and she wants to come home with me, I can't take her to the SL. She will freak and run way. Oh... shit.... I haven't thought that through at all.

Final recourse... blow her off and head to the DR. This is an experiment.

I dined at Nuestra Tierra twice recently and it was very nice. It's on the pruillo map. Open air arrangement, open 24 hours a day. Service is a little slow, but good food. My date liked it. Do not order the grande pork chop unless you want a doggie bag. It is half a pig. Don Wang is ok and so is Tin Jo, both near Idem

Chi-trekker,

Keep a itemized list of expenses. It would be interesting to find out how much you spend on her versus a working chica.

A high maintenance chica from Escazu is not going to be impressed with Nuestra Tierra. It has no ambiance at all and is not really outside the gulch.

Michu Picu acroos the street from Oasis is a nice seafood restruant. And no one will know oasis is across the street. This place will cost you 40.00 Us for a nice dinner

Alittle nicer and at that end of town is the Montisore. It is on top of a hill overlooking the central valley. Romantic kind of place where you can walk in the garden and look at the city. Small Disco downstairs. This place with a bottle of wine will cost 100. US

Any restaurant that's open 24 hrs a day is a NOT a good date spot. I just keep thinking of Denny's for some reason.

That is a good restaurant and I've enjoyed it several times. But, I agree with Orange, not much of a date place. Another suggestion and I think there is one on Paseo Colon is a sushi place. I've found a lot of the girls are nuts for sushi.
