With the amount of travel I do I filled up every single space on every page of my passport in just over 4 years. As I enter SJO the Immigration has been stamping all over the place on top of all stamps etc. Either I caught the wrong guy this trip or he was in a bad mood. My most recent trip the immigration offical did not want to let me into the country as I had no more space for Stamps. I explained & showed him various other stamps on top of others but he refused to stamp it and I was destined on the next flight back to Miami Luckily for me one of supervisors took pity on me explained to me that this will be my last visit without additonal pages and took me to her booth and stamped me in as the gentlemen refused to stamp me even after the supervisor said it was ok. I've sent my passport back for addtional pages and should have it back accoring to the Dept of State within 2 weeks with expedited service anyone have a more definitive time table on this? NOTE TO EVERYONE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PAGES in your passport as I you don't want to be sent back to the mainland that close to Pura Vida! Happy Holidays. |

G-MAN, should take less than the two weeks if you sent them the payment for expedited service. I had mine back in 6 business days sent to Philadelphia from NYC. Might take longer this time of year with holidays and from Miami but two weeks sounds about right. Guess you wont be traveling for New Years, sorry I'll miss ya. |

GMan, This exact thing was discussed in a recent thread, but I don't remember which thread it was. I'm pretty sure it was LVSteve that had a similar problem, but he went to the U.S. Embassy in CR, and they put an additional 12 pages in his book while he waited. This was of interest to me, as I've only got 3 or 4 (empty) pages left in my passport. Let us know the outcome. Happy Holidays. Mikey-B P.S. LVSteve, if you read this, can you please verify this information ? |

I had the same issue...I brought mine to the US Embassy in Panama, and they added the pages while I waited...I think it was Free? But I did it at the same time as they notarized my divorce documents, so I was in a state of bliss, and could of paid $1000 happily! |

Perhaps something known to all, but don't carry around your original passport after arrival in CR. Put it in the hotel safe. I now have my passport info page and arrival stamp page photocopied ASAP at the hotel, then attach the little colored sheet that is available at SJ immigration (spanish and english stating it is not required to carry in town an original passport, but a copy is acceptable). I have been stopped by the Policia outside Molino Rojo and Arcadas before, and showed my copy without problems. I would have been at their mercy if they confiscated my passport. Also, who knows if sometime I might be bullied or extorted by some thugs at these clubs we frequent? Better safe than sorry. JB666 |

I'm just a little curious, do they just staple some extra pages in the passport book or actually take it apart and do it professionally? It just seems a little ticky tacky to hassle people over not having a few official pages recklessly stapled in their book. |

It is actually done fairly professionally. The pages are glued into the center (staple line) of the passport, and it is noted on the insert when it was added. The pages are lettered (instead of numbered). The hassle outweighs the risk of not being let into your country of choice. |
