I enjoyed flying non-stop PHL to SJO (and back) in 2004 and early 2005. To the best of my knowledge, USAIRWAYS had the only non-stop PHL-SJO flights. On my last two trips I flew USAIR from PHL to SJO and back via CLT. The flight from Philly to Charlotte (and back) is on a crowded Boeing 767 full of passengers headed to points south. On the return flight, the immigration line at CLT can be a nightmare because all the flights bringing passengers back from the Caribbean and Central America around the same time.

USAIRWAYS still has one non-stop flight weekly which departs PHL on Saturdays. The same plane makes a quick turnaround in SJO and arrives back in PHL on Saturday night. The non-stop Saturday flights command a higher airfare.

I lucked out and booked a $309 R/T on the non-stop USAIRWAYS flights for my trip in Febraury, but it looks as if my future San Jose flights will be out of Newark. Continental has two daily reasonably-priced, non-stop EWR-SJO (and back) flights.

Why is it I can never find any cheap flights to CR? I can easily get to anywheres in the US with airmiles, but no matter where I look whether it be Miami or New York I cant seem to find return for less then 530 CDN. Thats about 460US

Jmacaula,

I booked my $309 flight out of PHL last month. Two days later, the price jumped up to $450+.

Where in Canada do you depart for SJO?
If you live on the East Coast, you may want to use your airmiles to get to Newark, and then grab one of the two non-stop Continental flights @ $401 r/t to SJO. The least expensive prices out of EWR and PHL to SJO seem to be hovering around $400 now. With airfares between PHL or EWR and YYZ around $245, the $530 CAN may be the best deal of the moment. Or...you may want to wait until Boxer Day to start searching for flights (when all the Christmas present buying is over).

Good luck and happy hunting!

I usually use air miles and fly from Halifax to New York - JFK. Not sure why really but I presumed it was the place to go for cheapest flights on the East Coast.

Ill check out some Newark flights and see what I can find.
