A regular taxi would cost a lot. You best bet would be to take a group tourist shuttle van or the public bus. The former will pick you up and deliver you door to door at your hotels and costs about $25-30/pp each way depending on which company you use. Here is one link http://www.1-costaricalink.com/costa_rica_transportation/san_jose_shuttle_buses.htm. The bus is a little more complicated since you need to get to and from the bus station but it will cost you only $5 each way and leaves 3X/day. The other way you could go is by air which will set you back $50 each way but will get you there in helf hour (plus anytime spent getting to/from and at the airport) as opposed to the 3.5 hour drive by taxi/rental car/bus or shuttle.

What about spending a couple extra $$ and saving a whole lot of time and fly Sansa or Nature Air into Quepos. I don't think the R/T costs that much more than what you'd wind up spending on taxi's and buses plus you have a lot of extra time left over. I believe the flight time from SJ is only about 25 or 30 minutes.

You can get tickets on the internet. I'm not sure about Nature Air's website, but you can go to www.flysansa.com to book your in-country flights from SJO to Manuel Antonio. Usually runs around $60 - $70 each way, and you'll be there in about 30 minutes. Good Luck.

FYI...

Be sure to call NatureAir or Sansa the morning of your flight to verify/reconfirm your reservations. One time a Tica and myself were scheduled to fly to Quepos/MA on Sansa and since we were the only passengers (or so we were told) they cancelled the flight and we had to wait 3 or 4 hours for the next flight.

If your friend gets in on Monday afternoon you probably won't be able to fly to Quepos/MA until Tuesday morning, The last flight on either airline leaves at 1:30 PM. If you can make that, Sansa is probably your better bet since it leaves from the Int'l airport in Alajuela where your friend will be arriving and r/t airfare on Sansa is only $88. If you leave the next day you could fly by either carrier. Nature Air is a little more expensive at $100 r/t but it leaves out of the Tobias Bolaños Airport in San Jose so will be a much cheaper cab ride from where you're probably staying. BTW, their website is at http://www.natureair.com. The express buses to MA are at 6AM, noon & 6PM so you could conceivably leave late on Monday but that would get you in fairly late and at that point you may just prefer to take an early flight the next morning.
