Today's AM Costa Rica reports of protests blocking major roads in Jaco.
And another story reports of planned strikes/road blocks by the general public in protest of the CAFTA agreement.
Anybody have any experiences with the current protests or reported past
national strikes/road blocks?

last year, maybe it was September, there was a large protest regarding vehicle inspection and corruption in general. Getting around was very very difficult. I almost missed meeting a friend there. If it's Jaco, it wouldn't be so bad though, since all you have to do is avoid Jaco. But it's nearly impossible to avoid San Jose.

I was shopping near the Post Office in downtown San Jose on thursday; when a group of students came through with a police escort protesting CAFTA. It was a group of about 100 with drums and a van with a loudspeaker. I did not feel threatened at all and actually laughed as I enjoyed the spectical.
