I am trying to book my flight for Superbowl weekend (JFK-SJO). Right now, I'm getting a fare of $453 RT. Do you think it may go down if I wait a little, or should I book it now? I paid $350 last weekend, but I know this is the tourist season, so I expect to pay more. I know if I wait too long it will increase, but I'm thinkin if it's not selling well, maybe it goes down a little. I'm taking the TACA (#661) on 2/2, returning on 2/6 (#660). Oh yea, I know the flight numbers by heart now, it's one of the signs.

Anybody from NY-metro area takin that flight? Kills the time to have somebody to talk to.

later and thanks for the help once again,

-Orange

Given the time of year, I'm guessing that's a pretty good rate.

On a tangent, I'm wondering how fast Cancun's hotels recover from Wilma. That could in theory divert some traffic down here, though most likely to Liberia and not SJO.

It's a crap shoot. The rates might go down, but they also could go even higher. February is in the middle of the High Season in CR. It may be SuperBowl weekend for us in the states, but the 1st weekend of February is Election Weekend in CR. Don't know if this will mean heavier air traffic, but it may.

Maybe we could get some of the CR locals to chime in here to let us all know what to expect when it comes to Elections in Costa Rica.....
Besides being a "dry" weekend, are there usually more or less people in town for elections? More chica's or less chica's? More traffic or less traffic? etc., etc., etc.,

Either way......no worries. It's still gonna be a great weekend!

I did not live in CR the last time they had elections so can not give any first hand knowledge.

My best guess is that it will have zero impact on the "regular" tourist scene as most tour operators and travel agents book their clients on eco-tour or beach vacations and will most likely not even be aware there is an election and if they are aware will not be concerned with the "dry" spell.

Mongers?? an unknown, hopefully someone here, Mente maybe, has some info.

I did a search on Mobissimo and the best I found was $445 on American for 2/2 to 2/6 as of today.

Usually fares start to drop about three months out if the seats look like they will not be full.

But you never can tell for sure.

Good Luck.

By the way it was good to meet you at the SL party.

It is a total crap shoot. Airlines have a weird pricing structure. It would make sense that the closer it gets to the travel date and the plane is not full, they would try to sell those last few seats very cheap since it's at 100% profit margin (less chips and soda), but they charge more. :?

I should probably just book it now. Even if it goes down, it won't be more than $40 or $50 (which is a session at ZB) but it can also go up significantly.

I can't say for sure on TACA but on American if the fare goes down after you book it for your flight they will give you a refund for the diffence when you book it direct with airline.I just got a $116 credit for my Decmeber trip last week. All you have to do is call in.rbc100

I just booked it: $453 RT, nonstop from NY. And I checked with TACA, no refunds if the price drops.

Countdown has officially begun: 3 months exactly!
