Rented with Payless off of Expedia.com and received a rate of 20 bucks a day for an SUV with manual trans.

1st off you have to buy there BS liability insurance even thought you might have something on your own policy back in the states. That costs 20 bucks extra per day. Then with Taxes and everything else they throw on it ended up being around 45 per day (still not bad compared with renting in the states) Ive paid 99 bucks a day before.

As everyone has said over and over DONT RENT if you dont have too. I rented because I've been seeing tica for the last trips so I wanted to drive to her town Alajeua and the beach. Also I stayed at the couryard in so thought it would work out better than using taxis.

Driving around Costa Rica is a pain in the ass. No street signs, people running red lights (legal in CR) if you stop 1st. and Huge ass pot holes that would destroy my car at home. One way streets that you cant tell which way is which (went down the wrong way) sucked ass.
