Recently got back from second trip to SJ. Visited the famed Hotel Del Rey with my amigos Thurs-Sun nights. A mild disappointment for all us. Realize our experience may be isolated & overly cynical but wanted to get the word out anyway. The Del Rey was better on my first visit 10 months ago. This combined with the Del Rey's declining hotel service and ever higher fees prompted this blog. Here’s the straight non-sugarcoated version:

Many of the females inside appeared to be straight up stone Columbian and Venezuelan hustlers (ie what you vets call “hardcore”). The same ones were there every night like clockwork. Most had way too much silicone and make up.

Also noticed many chicas with large unattractive tattoos or "placas" (maybe) gang tats. A few chicas (don't know nationality) with the "laugh now-cry later" clown tats, which is straight up gang related indicia.
Some had that anorexic "twitch" user look about them.

Also lots of hard looking Dominican and Panamanian chicas, but unfortunately not many Ticas or Nicas. Some would approach you and after about 5 seconds of conversation ask “what you pay baby?” If you didn’t answer pronto (or quote an amount they liked) they would storm off and point you out to their “girls night out” group.

Moreover, instead of circulating where you could see them, many of the chicas (& all the columbianas) stood along the wall in dark areas or remained seated in large groups. They expected guys to come to them as if they were a bunch prom queens. Many had that "get back look" which was acerbated by the excessive make up, ridiculous amounts of silicone, and overly provocative style of dress. Everything about them was fake.

We also noticed several columbianas occasionally talking with the same two guys (inside DR) on different nights. Both of these hombres appeared to be South American -one had tats all on his forearms. My Spanish speaking buddy used the collective terms "coyote, pedr*nte and chivo". Don’t know though. Also saw hombres driving up outside whereupon some chicas would run out speak with them briefly and run back in. Interestingly enough my buddy got into an argument with one of them and she (typical female) ran over to one these guys and pointed (ratted) him out. Nothing came of it as we left anyway. We only wanted to be good gringos with no trouble.

Maybe Del Rey security needs to start profiling entrants a little more before just blindly letting any guy in off the streets.

Modus Operandi:
The MO with these Columbianas and Venezuelans is the same...."hey baby...baby...papiii." ..."you buy me bebida?" " You so handsome".
Straight up memorized/ scripted lines. I thought I was back in Subic bay Phillipines or some rip off vegas strip club for crying out loud.
Once in the room...they undress slightly then comes the breaking curve ball..."it's ok you pay me now baby…bien?". They want the coin soon after you hit the room. Moreover they count dinero like a bunch of cashiers…..inspecting each bill.
Also if your anything more than seven inches they immediately start whining "oh you too big, I too sore..I no feel good”. Anymore than about 10 minutes of thrusting is too much. I felt like giving at least two of them pacifiers and rattlers. Apparently they’re used to Asian guys who pop quickly and don’t argue. Being nice and sweet to them apparently only made them bolder with this silliness.

Some of my buds (who are sharp looking mid 30’s guys) had the same experience. These chicas don’t care what you look like…it’s a hustle to them. When we compared notes afterward at the News Cafe we immediately saw the similarities.

For all the hype our visit to the Del Rey was an anticlimactic thumbs down. Too much rif raf, too many Columbianas, & not enough Ticas and Nicas.

Next we'll stick with the MP's or go to Brazil where the women seem to be much prettier & not so much on the take.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I hate to admit this, but my anticipation for going down to CR has deminished slightly, over the last few months. I don't know if I feel like putting up with attitudes and "hardcore" type pros. Maybe someone can put things back in perspective for me. I am looking forward to the MPs though. Well I hope before my trip in mid October, things don't get worse. And the hardcore pros, don't chase away all the semi-pro nicas and ticas away. We will definitly need to stick together down there, maybe even for safety reasons now.

That faily well sums up my assesment of the Del Rey.There are a few good ones to be found there but I prefer to hobby out of the gulch.Check my list of many of the MP's and local clubs around downtown in the MP's bars and clubs section.These are in price ranges for any budget and none are clip joints.You will find mostly Ticas and Nicas with a few Colombianas mixed in.Women in local venues are far less hardened.Many ticas won't wotk the Del Rey becuase of the reputation and concern about their families finding out.rbc100

Sorry that you and your buddies were so disappointed with the chicas at the DR. I will neither agree or disagree with your assessment of the DR because you are entitled to your opinion except for a couple of things. First of all,I have been living here for 2 years and travelling here for a total of 6 years, and I have met only one chica from Venezuela at the DR and I think she was really a Colombiana. Next,on almost any given night,I believe there are more Ticas there than ANY other country's chicas. There are certainly a lot of chicas there that should be avoided,but there are a lot of gems also.It's too bad you didn't make use of this board and it's members who would have gladly guided you to the nice ones.

First of all let me say I've never met a single colUmbiana at the HDR/BM although I HAVE met a number of colOmbianas. They're the easiest ones to notice because in many instances they're the most attractive and the most aggressive. So perhaps that is where Marlin is getting that impression. However, I have to agree with VB that Ticas, for now at least, still make up the majority. That said, although usually not as hard core, many of the BM Ticas have become emboldened(?), if that is the right word, by their competition in terms of what they think they can get away with. Also, the hallmark of the HDR/BM which is the plethora, now theres a good word, the plethora of females and the strong chica:gringo ratio, is fed by a lot of unexceptional or even fat and ugly chicas along with the beauties. What makes those girls think they can get a piece of the top dollar they've heard their more attractive sisters can get is beyond me, though I suppose there's a market for anything. To say that all the chicas are either ugly tramps or cold heartless mercenaries is to overstate the problem. There are what some members like to refer to as "hidden gems" mixed in - attractive GFE chicas who will go with you for a semi-reasonable rate. The problem is in finding them or distinguishing them from all the chaff. Some guys actually like this and refer to it as prospecting or the thrill of the hunt. I've grown too impatient for that as the problem as grown worse and worse at the BM and as I've discovered other easier avenues.

I'll close with one more observation for VB. It is easy for you to say there are plenty of gems. As a permanent resident, you have the time and resources to sit and wait and search them out. You can do the extended interviews with the girls themselves as well as fellow mongers that have been with them. If a girl does not check out you can move on to the next and if you go home at the end of the night emptyhanded it is no big deal because there's always tomorrow or a list of names in your little black book to call. Over time you know which girls are good and which to avoid. A guy coming into to town for a week does not have the same luxury. True he can ask you if you're around (and he knows who you are) or another CRT'er, but in most cases the guys who are around at any given time may only know about a small handful of the girls that are at that time. And the most highly recommended girls are also the ones most likely to get snapped up quickly by other CRT'ers or be otherwise engaged in conversation with other gringos. Alternatively, if a guytries to do the work himself and spends too much time buying a chica drinks and trying to determine whether she's going to turn into a Senorita Hyde when he gets her back to his room, he either runs the risk of making a big mistake with her or having less time to make the assessment with the next chica candidate. If he goes home alone at the end of the night it is much more serious because of his relatively short time in paradise vs. expat residents.

I've been living in CR for almost 3 years now, and the DR has changed for the worst. When friends would come down to visit, that would be the 1st place we go to start off the night. Over the past year or more, the only reason I would take someone there is for the freak show. Those girls are mostly Vipers waiting to strike....

There are certainly a few pros in the DR/KL. They ask you the same questions time after time. There are plenty of good girls if you are willing to spend the time interviewing them. I even found a gem at one of the casinos my first night in town. A tica 19 years old with a good attitude and GFE. The MP's are certainly a good alternative but only available until the early evening.

My experience is, the best time to avoid the hardcore chicas is noon - 5:30pm, although the "prime cuts" aren't typically available during that time slot, you can "work-a-deal" much easier though. I've learned over 6 trips, that its best to hit all the MP's during the day time & early evening, and go watch "the show" at night in the DR, by that time most of your "urges" will have been satisfied & you can be a little more choosey and not so quick to let go of your hard earned $$$$$. the rabbit/GoT

I stayed at the DR from 8/25-8/31 and had an amazing overall time. Each night of my trip I was with a different girl, all of whom I met in the BM after 10pm. Three of them were Colombianas, one was Venezuelan, and one was a Tica. All three Colombianas provided great, non-rushed experiences up in my room. I knew that the Colombianas have a rep for being hustlers who talk a great game downstairs only to be in and out of the room in 30 minutes. But I took the time to talk to them, see if the chemistry was there, and as a result of my patience I got my money's worth and then some. One was named Camilla, who has 2 distinct but small sexy moles on her face, and one was named Anna Maria, who by far had the most amazing ass I've ever seen in my entire life. I can't recall the name of the third. All three Colombianas asked for cien, but I was able to negotiate down to a more favorable price with no problem at all. I don't think that the girls who ask for cien really expect to get it. But they're business women who understand the art of negotiation. They go high, we go low, and we meet somewhere in the middle. Anyway, the Venezuelan I met, a beautiful blonde with enhanced Ds, was definitely a hustler. The time I spent with her was fun but brief as she was in and out of my room in about 45 minutes. There's no question that she wanted to get downstairs and meet another monger. I can't recall her name. After 8 vodka & OJs, all of these Spanish names start to sound the same to me! The Tica I met on a Friday night was by far the highlight of my trip. I really wish I could remember her name, but she was absolutely adorable. She was all alone, looking sort of lost and sad. We talked for a while in the BM, shot pool at Monkey Bar until 3:00am, and she spent the night in my room & spent time with me until 12 noon. She claimed to not be a working girl and said she works as a receptionist at a dentist's office. Apparently she was at the BM to meet her gringo BF who lives in CR. When he showed up he saw her talking to a guy, an argument ensued, and he stormed out and drove away. Did I believe that?? Who knows. It didn't really matter to me. Anyway, when it was all said and done I asked her what she wanted and she said "whatever you want to give me, it's not important." So I gave her cien for a TLN and I never saw her again as she had to go to Limon for the rest of the week so see her mom. I took a pic of her which I can email out. Just PM me w/ your email addy.

I've been to the DR two times and have come to realize that while the 9s and 10s make for great eye candy and something to think about the next time you wax your carrot, the 6s. 7s, and 8s are the way to go. The girls who are 9s and 10s (although there aren't that many 10s in the BM) tend to be the jaded, arrogant hustlers who are all business, especially the Colombians (even though my experience with them was different). If you're willing to drop to a 6-8, exercise patience, take the time to really talk to a girl on a personal level (to the extent that you can due to the language barrier) and see if the chemistry is there, you usually won't be disappointed. There are some 9s and 10s that aren't husters, but they're needles in the haystack.

I'm no vet or anything but here are my thoughts on the DR:

1. I don't know if there is a comparable experience for a newbie than to walk into DR/BM for the first time.

2. Too may chicas are "good from far, but far from good". They look really good from a distance but once you see them up close, you may be changing your mind. It happened to me a bunch of times.

3. The mistake too many guys make is picking the chicas solely based on looks alone. While I realize it's more difficult for those of us who don't speak Spanish well to "interview" them, but there are ways around that. Ask them to get a drink and sit with you. If they are overly eager to go to your room (FYI-it's not because you're so handsome, that they must have you right there and then ), drop them and say next because this is how they will be up in your room.

4. Don't generalize about Colombianas, Venezuelnians, Ticas, Nicas, etc. It may save you from a few bad ones but it will undoubtedly prevent you from experiencing a few good ones too.

I am arriving in 45 days and I plan on being at the DR every night, and not paying cien unless it's for 2+ hours. I will also hit the MP's and a few strip clubs, but DR is great if you play it right.

I too am no vet but after about 4 trips to CR I still love the BM. Sometimes there are so many girls its almost to much. I want all of them maybe out of the 60 to 80 in there I would only pass on about a dozen. There just is not enough time. Some maybe hardcore or only 5 or 6 in looks but I still want to try them out. Plus every trip there are so many new faces. To me its all good.

I love the Blue Marlin and the whole hunt there and just watching the interaction of and with the girls. I have had a lot of very good experiences there and go there everynight. If you put in a little work, it is not that hard to find good ones. When I hear about guys who got bad attitund and alot of rules, they always paid upfront. If I was to pick one rule and only rule to eliminate 90% of the Mala chicas is *PAGAR CUANDO TERMINAR*NEVER PAY UP FRONT* I have only had 2 chicas that changed their attitude back in the room on 3 trips and I told them to leave after about 5 minutes. If you follow the *NEVER PAY UP FRONT RULE*, this screening process will increase you good times tremendously.

It seems to me that Colombianas are recognized by most members here as the most atractive! I think some guys here are probably intimidated by them to certain point by their looks and attitude. I prefer a woman with a little fire rather than a woman with no spunk. When I first went to the Del Rey for the first time i went in thinking that colombianas were coldhearted b***es, but after 2 trips they have been the sweetest for me. No money till after and its always TLN or at least 3 hours for 100$. I even have some just call me and tell me they want to spend the night no money involved. I just think its just chemistry if you actually don't drool all over them and actually take a little time to get to know them, you will see they are no different than any other woman that simply wants respect and dignity regardless of their proffession.

I met a very lovely 21YO Colombiana named Anna Marise in The Del Rey on 8-31@ about 7:30 and she was the bomb. Said she has only been in town for 3 days. I spent the night with her including dinner at some marisco resteraunt about a 10-15 min drive from the DR, drinks at the New york Bar and dancing. Total spent the first night Approx $140 including room fee of $17 at the Balmoral. I had to send her away at about 10AM. I made arraingments to meet her when I returned from the beach. I went to Jaco for a planned 3 day stay but after the dissapointment at quality at the Beatle Bar I returned early. Went to the BM looking to see if she was working on 9-2 Friday night she was either occupado or not working and I ended up with a 20YO Blond green eyed Tica named Stephanie, said she was student and only works weekends. Lots of fun but no GFE and stayed the night for $100 2 pops not bad for a 55 YO.
Called my Colombiana friend at the number she left and it turns out it is a friends number as Anna Marisa does not have her own phone yet. I left a message and got a return call in about 20 min and arrainged a meeting outside my hotel.Went to dinner at Machu Pichu (very good deal for the money)went back to hotel and had amazing GFE session BBBJ, could have
been BBS but thought better of it. Then off for dancing and drinks. Spent the night and early morning in total lust like I haven't had in quite some time.
This girl was amazing and didn't want to leave and has called me once since I've been home and wants me to visit her in Cartagena. Columbia over Christmass. I am actually thinking of going.
