Guys;
Suprised I haven't seen it anywhere else in this section. I hate to be the one to break it but the Hotel Amon Plaza (Clarion) has been closed for the past 3 days. According to my contacts at the hotel, the owners failed to pay taxes and the government shut it down last Thursday. Check with Nixon at the Paradisio Casino if you've already made reservations.

I just sent a email to Nixon regarding my reservation and questioning him about the situation at present. I will post when I get a reply.

Thanks for the information LVSteve.
I'm very interested to see what RC finds
out from Nixon, since I have reservations at
the Amon for the upcoming weekend (Friday-Sunday nights).
That sure would suck to be stuck at the last minute
trying to find an alternate place to stay during
this busy weekend.

Guys;
As of midnight last night, the casino is still opened. The hotel and resturant are closed. Maybe things will get straightned out Monday.

Hey Steve,

If they close the casino for just a month you will have enough money saved to buy a 2006 Toyota Yaris. :lol: :lol:

I just tried to call Nixon since I have not recieved a email. He is off but, will be working tomorrow. I spoke briefly to a girl who said I am confirmed and they would have a room. Since she spoke poor English and my Spanish is limited to "no condom por boca, condom por sexo" I think I will wait until tomorrow and call Nixon.

Hopefully all will be well then. I will post what I find for all others at the Amon.

GENTLEMEN:
I HAVE JUST CONFIRMED THE HOTEL IS OPEN AND OPERATIONAL!

The reception area is closed and so is the Restaraunt but all the rooms and hotel ameniteis are available, and there currently is no issue with reservations so you can all rest easy.

I was told everything should be operational 100% sometime tomorrow as well!

Have a nice day see you all next week!

YO Amon:

I called the hotel at 8:45 am (CR time) this morning and asked for El Ciego's room (using his reg. name) and the girl said he was not registered nor had he stayed there. He was booked there as I had understood from him. She made no mention of any problems with the hotel. Curious. I also asked another desk person if they noticed a gringo beating guests up using a white cane.......response was priceless. Best I stay away from there.

Thanks Admin1.

I was getting worried there. I thought I was going to have to negotiate some 24hr sessions at ZB.

Cheers, RC

Thanks Admin 1, that's really great news.
For a moment I thought I might have had
to give Hotel Del Circus at try. :shock:

Just for the record...the casino is a separate biz/entity from the hotel...and they should be able to switch hotels as suppliers if Amon Plaza had a problem or was closed. Alas...welcome to adventures of business in Costa Rica :? ...

Seems to be the second time this happened, last time Hoserack and I stayed there they had just re-opened. In fact the yellow tape was still on the side of the doors.

Great hotel I enjoyed the stay, wouldn't pay their rack rate but the VIP rate is fine.

As of yesterday morning, the hotel is fully operational. Front desk open for business. Yellow tape gone. Guess they paid thier taxes.
