Please read newbie section. There are several threads pertaining to all your questions. If you spring for the VIP membership you'll save more than the $39.00 1st trip, many many discounts including presidente Sparky |

I agree with Sparkchaser. Spend the 39 dollars for VIP membership and be rewarded many times over. The presidente includes breakfast. Lunch and dinner depends on your personal tastes and size of your wallet. Lunch can be $2 up to whatever. Dinner $3 mas o menos at Key largo up to whatever depending on restaurant and what you order. Yes, some places take plastic but usually with a surcharge of 3 to 5%. Most mongering can be done on foot during the day but I suggest that you read through the newbie section as there are some areas in the gultch and near it that can be unsafe at times. Taxis are cheap and should be used whenever wandering too far from the presidente or BM, Kl area at night. Like any big city, beware, you may be a target so keep your head on straight. Once again, the VIP membership will save you mucho dinero with all the discounts at the Presidente, Zona Blue and many restaurants. Check it out and read all you can on this board to avoid many of the pitfalls experienced by those not armed with the advice of our members. Life is short and death is long, enjoy, kenj8 |

I think it's a toss up whether to buy the $39 membership or buy a new keyboard whose CAPS LOCK button is operational. |

Thanks RHM for the "caps lock" note. That drives me crazy too. Anyway, suggest to the new guy to use the credit card to pay your hotel bill and to otherwise leave it in the room safe. I once bought a $300 pizza at a small restaurant in Paris by not noticing the decimal point had been put in the wrong place. I signed it, I owned it. No recourse. There are plenty of ATM's downtown. Personally, I don't think drawing $300 out of the atm at the Del Rey is a good idea. Go next door to the Colonial. For the most part dollars and colones can be used interchangably. Take a bunch of small bills for tips. Look over your bills before leaving. Leave those at home that have the slightest tear or any marking on them. Stay out of the gringo joints and you will seldom spend more than $5 on a meal. The later it gets the more you should consider a taxi. The walk between the Prez & the DR is ok. Don't even think about walking through Morazan Park at night. |
